Overview The Fire Alarm Installation Engineer is responsible for the installation, testing, and handover of fire detection and alarm systems in accordance with current British Standards, company procedures, and customer requirements. The role involves working on a variety of commercial, industrial, residential, and public-sector projects while maintaining high standards of workmanship, safety, and customer service. Key Responsibilities Install fire alarm systems in accordance with design drawings, specifications, and BS 5839 requirements. Install containment systems including conduit, trunking, tray, and cable basket. Run and terminate fire-resistant cables. Install fire alarm control panels, detectors, call points, sounders, interfaces, and associated equipment. Identify and rectify installation faults and defects. Complete all required documentation, including installation records, commissioning sheets, and site reports. Liaise with project managers, site managers, clients, and other trades on site. Ensure all work is completed within project timescales and budgets. Maintain company tools, equipment, and vehicles in a clean and serviceable condition. Follow company Health & Safety policies and site-specific requirements at all times. Provide excellent customer service and maintain professional standards when representing the company. Skills and ExperienceEssential Proven experience installing fire alarm systems. Good understanding of BS 5839 standards. Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and specifications. Experience with fire alarm manufacturers such as Advanced, Kentec, C-Tec, Morley, Gent, Notifier, Apollo, Hochiki, or similar. Good fault-finding and problem-solving skills. Strong communication and organisational skills. Full UK driving licence. Ability to work independently and as part of a team. Desirable FIA or equivalent fire alarm qualifications. ECS/CSCS Card. IPAF Licence. PASMA Licence. Experience commissioning fire alarm systems. Knowledge of integrated life safety systems. Experience working within healthcare, education, residential, or commercial environments. Personal Attributes Professional and customer-focused. Reliable and self-motivated. Health & Safety The engineer must: Work in accordance with company Health & Safety policies. Wear appropriate PPE. Report hazards, accidents, and near misses promptly.
