Overview We are seeking a hands-on, organized, and dependable Human Resources & Payroll Manager to manage all HR and payroll functions for our car wash operation. As a one-person HR department, this position will have ownership of the full employee lifecycle, including recruiting, hiring, onboarding, employee records, attendance, employee relations, benefits, compliance, and payroll. This is a highly hands-on role that works closely with car wash managers and employees to support the day-to-day needs of a fast-paced, customer-focused environment. The Human Resources & Payroll Manager will also be responsible for processing payroll through QuickBooks Desktop , using employee timekeeping and workforce information from Connecteam and Innovative Control Systems (ICS) . Accuracy, confidentiality, organization, and the ability to meet strict payroll deadlines are essential. The ideal candidate is someone who can work independently, communicate effectively with employees and managers, solve problems quickly, and keep HR processes organized in a busy hourly workforce environment. Duties & ResponsibilitiesRecruiting & Hiring Manage the recruiting process for hourly and management positions. Post job openings, review applications, conduct interviews, and coordinate hiring. Work with car wash managers to identify staffing needs and maintain appropriate staffing levels. Complete new-hire paperwork, employment verification, and required documentation. Coordinate background checks and other pre-employment requirements as applicable. Develop strategies to attract and retain dependable employees in a competitive hourly workforce. Employee Onboarding & Records Manage the onboarding process for all new employees. Ensure new employees complete required paperwork, policies, and training. Maintain accurate and confidential personnel files. Track employee status, pay rates, positions, certifications, and other required employee information. Manage employee changes, transfers, promotions, pay changes, and terminations. Ensure departing employees are properly offboarded and company property is accounted for. Payroll Manage the company's payroll process from start to finish. Review employee hours and attendance information in Connecteam and Innovative Control Systems (ICS) . Process accurate and timely payroll through QuickBooks Desktop Verify regular hours, overtime, PTO, bonuses, deductions, pay-rate changes, new hires, and terminations before payroll is finalized. Reconcile information between Connecteam, ICS, and QuickBooks and resolve discrepancies. Work with managers to correct missed punches, inaccurate time records, and other payroll issues. Respond to employee payroll questions and resolve discrepancies promptly. Maintain accurate payroll records and documentation. Protect the confidentiality of employee compensation and payroll information. Ensure payroll is completed accurately and on schedule every pay period. Attendance & Employee Relations Monitor attendance and assist managers with attendance-related issues. Help ensure consistent application of attendance, scheduling, and workplace policies. Address employee questions, concerns, and workplace conflicts. Assist managers with coaching, corrective action, disciplinary documentation, and performance issues. Conduct or coordinate employee investigations when necessary. Help promote a professional, respectful, and positive workplace. Support managers in handling employee issues consistently and appropriately. Benefits & Employee Support Coordinate employee benefit enrollment and changes. Assist employees with questions regarding benefits and company policies. Maintain accurate benefits records and documentation. Coordinate with insurance and benefits providers as needed. Assist employees with employment-related paperwork and requests. Compliance & Safety Maintain compliance with applicable federal, state, and local employment laws. Monitor compliance with wage and hour requirements, overtime, meal and rest break requirements, and other applicable employment regulations. Maintain required employment records and workplace postings. Assist CompWise with Workers' Compensation claims and documentation. Coordinate with management regarding OSHA and workplace safety requirements. Maintain appropriate documentation for employee incidents and workplace injuries. Stay informed about changes to employment laws and recommend updates to company policies and procedures. HR Administration & Operations Serve as the primary HR resource for employees and car wash managers. Develop and maintain employee handbooks, HR policies, forms, and procedures. Maintain accurate HR information and reporting. Track employee turnover, hiring activity, attendance, and other HR metrics. Identify opportunities to improve hiring, onboarding, payroll, retention, and employee communication. Help managers understand and consistently follow HR policies and procedures. Maintain organized HR systems and ensure employee information is kept current. Work with outside payroll, benefits, insurance, legal, and HR professionals when necessary. Experience & Qualifications 3+ years of HR experience, preferably in a car wash, retail, hospitality, restaurant, automotive, or other fast-paced hourly workforce environment . Experience independently managing a broad range of HR responsibilities. Hands-on payroll processing experience; QuickBooks Desktop experience strongly preferred . Experience with employee timekeeping and scheduling systems; Connecteam experience preferred . Experience working with Innovative Control Systems (ICS) is preferred, but not required. Strong understanding of hourly payroll, overtime, PTO, deductions, timekeeping, and attendance. Experience recruiting and hiring hourly employees. Experience with employee onboarding, employee relations, performance management, and terminations. Working knowledge of employment laws and HR compliance requirements. Experience handling Workers' Compensation matters is preferred. Strong attention to detail, particularly when reviewing payroll and employee records. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills. Ability to maintain strict confidentiality. Strong organizational skills and ability to manage multiple priorities. Ability to work independently and take ownership of the HR function. Comfortable working with employees and managers at all levels of a fast-paced operation. Ideal Candidate The ideal candidate is a hands-on HR professional who is comfortable being a one-person HR department and working directly with a large hourly workforce. You should be comfortable moving between recruiting new car wash employees, helping a manager resolve an attendance issue, answering an employee's payroll question, reviewing time punches in Connecteam and ICS, processing payroll in QuickBooks, managing benefits, and ensuring required HR documentation is complete. This role requires someone who is organized, approachable, detail-oriented, proactive, and comfortable holding employees and managers accountable to company policies .
