This role is instrumental in driving people operations across our farming and fruit divisions. The successful candidate will bring both tactical and strategic expertise to ensure compliance, cultivate a positive work environment, and support our long-term organizational goals. As a key business partner, the Human Resources (HR) Manager will serve as a trusted advisor to leadership and a champion for employees at all levels. Duties/Responsibilities · Provide strategic organization leadership by partnering with senior leaders to align HR initiatives with business objectives, with a focus on workforce planning, talent development, and organizational effectiveness. · Manage complex and sensitive employee relations matters with discretion, consistency, and sound judgment while applying federal, state, and local employment requirements, with particular attention to California wage-and-hour and agricultural labor practices across multi-entity operations. · Oversee full-cycle recruitment, from workforce forecasting to onboarding ensuring that you drive consistently in hiring practices and maintain accurate documentation in the HRIS. · Maintain, update, implement, and consistently administer company policies and procedures; identify process gaps and support continuous improvement and corrective controls. · Lead administration, data integrity, and control validation of HRIS and timekeeping systems (UKG & Paylocity), including review of system access, pay and timekeeping configurations, earnings codes, audit trails, and data exceptions within the scope of HR responsibility. · Support and validate accurate and timely weekly and/or semi-monthly payroll processing, including review of timekeeping records, rates of pay, regular and overtime calculations, meal/rest premiums, differentials and other compensation, earnings codes, wage statements, final pay, and payroll exceptions. Investigate discrepancies, coordinate appropriate corrections, and escalate recurring or systemic issues. · Ensure personnel files, payroll/timekeeping support records, training records, and other compliance documentation are complete, accurate, auditable, retained, and maintained in accordance with internal controls and applicable requirements for applicants, active employees, and separated employees. · Guide disciplinary processes, workplace investigations, and employee separations using consistent, evidence-based practices. Plan investigations, identify issues, gather and preserve relevant information, conduct interviews, reconcile conflicting information, document findings and rationale, and promptly elevate material, repeated, systemic, or legally sensitive concerns to the leader of the HR function and/or legal counsel. · Implement new hire orientation and required compliance training (e.g., harassment prevention and safety), support ongoing employee development, verify completion and required acknowledgements, maintain auditable training records, and follow up on identified noncompliance or training gaps. · Oversee workers’ compensation claim administration from initial incident through resolution; coordinate with Safety, third-party administrators, and operational leaders; support timely documentation, return-to-work/modified-duty processes, and appropriate escalation of claim or compliance concerns. · Coordinate and oversee protected leave and accommodation processes, including FMLA/CFRA, FEHA/ADA interactive process, pregnancy-related protections, religious accommodation, return-to-work, and related documentation; recognize triggers, maintain required timelines, and escalate complex or legally sensitive matters. · Foster a respectful, inclusive workplace culture while supporting employee recognition programs and contributing to initiatives that enhance morale and retention. · Provide HR expertise for special initiatives and operational changes, including compliance reviews, process improvement, risk mitigation, and corrective-action projects as requested by business needs or leadership. · Serve as a direct manager to various roles within the HR and/or Safety focused areas of the business. · Establish clear performance expectations while providing ongoing coaching and feedback and ensuring regular workflow delegation across teams. · Hold team members and supervisors accountable through structured performance management, timely evaluations, coaching, and consistent follow-through. Address or escalate supervisor practices that create employee-relations, wage-and-hour, timekeeping, leave, or policy-compliance risk. · Oversee day-to-day HR programs and consistent policy administration. Conduct or coordinate periodic reviews of HR, payroll, timekeeping, employee relations, leave, and personnel practices to identify discrepancies, recurring errors, control weaknesses, and potential compliance risks. Analyze root causes, implement or recommend corrective controls, document remediation, verify effectiveness, and promptly escalate material or systemic concerns to the HR leadership and/or legal counsel. Qualifications/Requirements · Demonstrated alignment with Cobblestone Fruit’s mission and core values. · Minimum 5 years of progressive HR experience, preferably in agriculture, food production, or manufacturing. · Minimum of 3 years of direct leadership experience where you have managed a team of 2-6 direct reports. · Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or related field (Master’s or certification such as SHRM-CP/PHR preferred). · Bilingual in English and Spanish required. · Demonstrated working knowledge and applied experience with California employment law, including wage-and-hour compliance, timekeeping and payroll controls, meal and rest periods, overtime and regular-rate principles, wage statements, final pay, protected leaves, reasonable accommodation/interactive process, employee relations, workplace investigations, and applicable agricultural/industry requirements. · Strong HRIS system administration, data reporting, audit, and exception-review skills; demonstrated ability to evaluate HR/timekeeping data for accuracy, inconsistencies, trends, and control weaknesses. · Proven experience handling sensitive employee matters and workplace investigations with professionalism, discretion, evidence-based judgment, accurate documentation, and appropriate escalation. · Effective leadership, conflict resolution, and coaching abilities. · High attention to detail, strong organizational skills, and ability to manage competing priorities. · Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Outlook, Word). · Adaptable and solution-oriented with a continuous improvement mindset and demonstrated ability to identify patterns, determine root causes, implement corrective controls, verify effectiveness, and escalate significant compliance concerns. Physical Demands & Abilities · Ability to sit at a computer for prolonged periods. · Ability to occasionally lift, carry, and move equipment and materials weighing up to 50 pounds using proper ergonomic techniques safely occasionally. · Capable of accessing and traveling between field and facility environments. · Must be able to perform duties on-site, including in packing and agricultural settings. · Frequent use of hands and fingers for typing, writing, and handling office equipment. · Visual acuity sufficient to read documents , computer screens, and observe employee workspaces when conducting investigations or ergonomic reviews.
