The equivalent full-time salary is £45,000 for 40 paid hours a week. Our full-time attendance is 42.5 hours a week, including a 30-minute unpaid break each day. About us We operate TDG Services and The Drain Guys, with 16 employees across the two businesses, alongside a franchise business with two franchisees. We are looking for an experienced, approachable HR and Administration Officer to support our people and help with the everyday running of the office. You will work closely with the business owner and our existing Managers. About the role You will be our main day-to-day HR contact, providing practical support across employee relations, recruitment, onboarding, training and development. This is a varied, hands-on position. Alongside your HR responsibilities, you will carry out general administration, answer the telephone and deal with customers as regular parts of your role. Key responsibilitiesHR and employee support Provide practical HR advice and support to the business owner, managers and employees. Handle day-to-day employee matters, including sickness absence, attendance, performance, probation, disciplinary processes and grievances. Support investigations and formal meetings, prepare correspondence and maintain accurate records. Help managers apply policies fairly and consistently, identifying when specialist HR or legal advice is needed. Prepare and maintain employment contracts, staff handbooks, policies and employee documentation. Keep confidential personnel records accurate and up to date. Track holidays, absence, probation reviews and other important employment dates. Coordinate employee changes, leavers and relevant information for payroll. Recruitment and onboarding Help identify recruitment needs and prepare job descriptions and adverts. Coordinate applications, shortlist candidates and arrange interviews. Support interviews and selection decisions with the relevant manager. Coordinate references, right-to-work checks, offer letters and employment paperwork. Organise new-starter inductions and ensure employees receive the information, equipment and training they need. Arrange probation check-ins and help managers review new employees’ progress. Training and development Work with managers to identify training needs and skills gaps. Arrange internal and external training, including induction, refresher and role-specific training. Maintain training records and monitor qualifications, certificates and renewal dates. Support appraisals, development conversations and individual development plans. Help prepare useful induction and training materials. Gather feedback and follow up on whether training has improved confidence, skills and performance. Administration and customer service Support our existing Office Manager with everyday office administration and coordination. Answer telephone calls, respond to emails and deal professionally with customer enquiries. Take accurate messages, pass information to the appropriate colleagues and follow up outstanding queries. Maintain organised records, update systems and prepare documents and correspondence. Help coordinate meetings, appointments and internal communications. Support franchise administration and communication with our two franchisees where required. What we are looking forEssential Practical experience in a generalist HR, HR advisory or similar role. Confidence handling employee relations matters independently, including absence, performance, disciplinary and grievance processes. A sound working knowledge of UK employment practices and the judgement to recognise when specialist advice is needed. Strong administration, organisation and written communication skills. A professional, helpful telephone manner and confidence dealing with customers. Willingness to contribute to routine office work alongside HR responsibilities. Discretion, confidentiality and the ability to build trust while remaining fair and impartial. Confidence using Microsoft Office and maintaining accurate electronic records. Desirable CIPD Level 5, or equivalent HR knowledge and experience. A university degree is not essential. Experience working in a small business or providing HR support across more than one business. Experience supporting recruitment, onboarding, training and employee development. Familiarity with HR systems, training records and payroll administration. The person who will suit this role You will be organised, approachable and comfortable taking ownership of your work. You will enjoy supporting people, resolving practical problems and contributing to a small team, whether that means helping a manager with an employee matter, welcoming a new starter or answering a customer’s call.
