The Health Sensing Product Design team is seeking an experienced mechanical engineer to build the next generation of health sensors. Our sensors change how people interact with their technology and help them understand and improve their health.

As a member of the team, you will play a key role in specifying, developing, characterizing, and validating the mechanical design of our world-class health sensing systems. You will be working closely with cross functional teams to bring Apple products to life.

We are looking for a self-driven individual who approaches challenging problems with creativity, communicates complex topics with clarity, and has an genuine passion for health and wellness. You should be familiar with product manufacturing technologies related to sensors.

Your work will be in the hands of millions of people making a meaningful difference in their daily lives.

You will lead the end-to-end design, development, and validation of health sensing technology in Apple’s portfolio of products. You will work with our talented multidisciplinary team to generate and validate design concepts, and as the mechanical expert you will be responsible for engineering analysis and documentation for your piece of the project.

Mechanical design ownership of complex optomechanical systems Leading design convergence by strategically considering design tradeoffs and risks Applying good experimental design and the scientific method to reduce design risk early Running tolerance studies to ensure designs are scalable over manufacturing tolerances Designing and building prototypes to evaluate sensor concepts and validate FEA assumptions Developing comprehensive validation strategies for hardware performance, including custom tester design Driving processes to meet Apple’s high performance and cosmetic standards Supporting external manufacturing vendors with process development and root cause analysis for issues found during testing, including international travel between 15% and 25%.

Proficiency in 3D CAD, 2D drawings (GD&T) Strong grasp of mechanical engineering fundamentals, such as mechanics of materials and heat transfer Experience applying Design for Manufacturability (DFM) & Design for Assembly (DFA) in high volume production Practical experience with a range of manufacturing technologies (molding, machining, optomechanical packaging) Experience applying statistical techniques in data analysis and tolerance analysis Excellent written and verbal communication skills BS and a minimum of 10 years relevant industry experience

Direct experience in health and optical sensing Proficiency in Siemens NX Proficiency in FEA and/or multi-physics modeling (e.g., structural, thermal, optical) End-to-end experience taking new technology from concept through mass production
