About the Opportunity

An innovative, venture-backed AI company is building technology that transforms complex documents into reliable data and automated workflows. Its platform helps AI teams and enterprise businesses unlock information, improve accuracy, and streamline document-intensive work.

We’re seeking a Head of Product Engineering to lead and grow an eight-person team building the next generation of AI-powered applications. You’ll work directly with the founders and engineering leadership, influence the product roadmap, and remain actively involved in writing and shipping code.

What You’ll Do

• Lead, mentor, and grow the product engineering team.
• Ship production code during your first few months, then assume full team ownership while staying hands-on.
• Shape product priorities with founders, product partners, and enterprise customers.
• Build capabilities including AI-powered form filling, translation, document editing, and classification.
• Deliver fast, reliable, intuitive interfaces for complex document workflows.
• Own product engineering hiring, including sourcing, interviewing, and closing engineers.
• Partner with Platform and ML teams to bring new models and deployment capabilities into production.
• Establish effective engineering practices and thoughtful use of AI throughout development.

Required Qualifications

• Experience leading engineers as an Engineering Manager, Engineering Lead, Technical Lead Manager, or Head of Product Engineering.
• Typically three or more years managing engineers; first-time managers with one to two years at an AI-native company will also be considered.
• Personally built and shipped LLM-powered product features into production.
• A track record of leading teams that delivered applications with meaningful customer or business impact.
• Experience building products at a B2B or enterprise AI company.
• Experience building platforms for frontier AI labs.
• Strong product judgment, technical intuition, and hands-on engineering ability.
• Ability to work onsite in San Francisco five days per week.

Preferred Qualifications

• Founding engineer or founder experience, particularly at a startup with demonstrated traction.
• Experience with LLM evaluation tooling and production AI quality.
• Familiarity with computer vision, OCR, vision-language models, and APIs.
• A Computer Science degree from a strong program; bootcamp and self-taught candidates with exceptional experience are also welcome.

Pay: $250,000.00 - $350,000.00 per year
