OptioRxTonganoxie, KS 66086

Company Overview

OptioRx is a dynamic premier national compounding pharmacy providing best in class patient care. We serve 50 states and are committed to fostering a team environment rooted in trust, innovation, efficiency, accountability, integrity, and energy.

POSITION SUMMARY

The Head of Pharmacy Operations is an on-site leadership role for a pharmacist who holds and maintains an active, clean Kansas (KS) pharmacist license. Requiring regular, in-person presence throughout site development, launch, and ongoing operations, this position combines strategic planning and project leadership with a willingness to roll up their sleeves and work directly alongside the site team; it is not a remote role. The Head of Pharmacy Operations partners with the executive team, Licensing, and Regulatory Affairs and serves as a liaison to the board to advance site development and operational readiness. For at least the first six months, the focus will be on supporting site construction, coordinating required paperwork and documentation, and preparing the location for launch—not hands-on pharmacist work. Once the site is operational, the role may evolve toward Pharmacist-in-Charge (PIC) responsibilities or broader operations leadership, based on business needs.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES

· Lead strategic planning, project execution, and operational readiness for the 503B site, translating business priorities into actionable plans, milestones, and deliverables.

· Provide on-site leadership through regular, in-person presence at the 503B pharmacy site throughout development, launch, and ongoing operations, working directly alongside the site team to guide execution and resolve operational issues.

· Build, lead, and develop the pharmacy operations team; work alongside personnel on the ground to resolve issues, establish workflows, and support day-to-day execution as the site develops.

· Work closely with the executive team on site strategy, launch priorities, resource needs, and operational decisions; communicate progress, risks, and recommendations.

· Serve as a liaison to the board in coordination with the executive team, preparing and presenting updates on site development, project milestones, operational readiness, and key risks.

· For at least the first six months, prioritize site construction support, project coordination, required paperwork, and launch preparation rather than hands-on pharmacist work.

· Partner with construction and site teams to coordinate operational requirements, track dependencies and issues, and support completion of the facility and readiness for operations.

· Work alongside the Head of Licensing and Head of Regulatory Affairs to coordinate applications, required paperwork, supporting documentation, and readiness activities, while respecting each function’s responsibilities.

· Coordinate with Regulatory Affairs, Licensing, and Compliance to maintain current, accessible records and support audit, inspection, and regulatory review readiness.

· Develop staffing, onboarding, training, and competency plans to support launch and ongoing pharmacy operations in partnership with relevant functional leaders.

· Develop and implement operational policies, procedures, workflows, and quality improvement initiatives with pharmacy personnel and the appropriate regulatory and compliance partners.

· Monitor project milestones, operational indicators, and emerging risks; lead issue resolution and coordinate corrective or preventive actions with the appropriate teams.

· Plan inventory, equipment, supply, and purchasing needs with Procurement and site stakeholders to support launch and sustainable operations.

· Lead cross-functional project planning, resource planning, and budgeting activities; identify staffing, workflow, and process improvements that support safety, quality, and efficiency.

· Support the transition from construction and launch preparation to ongoing operations, aligning team responsibilities and operating plans with business needs.

· Once the location is operational, assume responsibilities aligned with the role’s agreed direction, which may emphasize Pharmacist-in-Charge (PIC) duties or broader operations leadership. Hands-on pharmacist responsibilities, if assigned, will reflect the evolved role and applicable licensure requirements.

NON-ESSENTIAL DUTIES

· Assume interim site leadership responsibilities as needed and consistent with the stage of site development.

· Participate in professional pharmaceutical organizations and industry activities that support continued knowledge, professional development, and pharmacy best practices.

· Participate in additional cross-functional initiatives and special projects that support site development and ongoing operations.

QUALIFICATIONS

· Bachelor of Science in Pharmacy or Doctor of Pharmacy degree required.

· Active, clean Kansas (KS) pharmacist license in good standing, with no disciplinary restrictions, required. Additional state pharmacist licenses preferred.

· Minimum of three years of pharmacy experience required, with demonstrated ability to lead operations, projects, and planning.

· Demonstrated leadership, cross-functional collaboration, and project management skills, including the ability to work effectively with on-site personnel and executive leadership and communicate with the board.

· Compounding experience preferred; experience in a 503B outsourcing facility is preferred. Formal compounding training or certifications, such as PCCA, ACA, or ASHP, are also preferred.

· High degree of proficiency with technology, including Microsoft Office Suite, Outlook, internet applications, pharmacy management systems, and compounding software used by the pharmacy.

· Ability and willingness to work on-site in a leadership capacity throughout site development, launch, and ongoing operations required. Must work directly alongside the site team, with the first six months or longer focused on construction support, administrative paperwork, and launch preparation rather than hands-on pharmacist work.

· Site startup, construction coordination, or facility launch experience preferred, with flexibility to evolve toward PIC responsibilities or broader operations leadership once the site is operational.

· Successful completion of required background check prior to employment.
