Head of MGA, Financial Lines & Casualty Underwriting

Job Purpose:

Manage the MGA, Casualty & Financial Lines division whose primary objective is to drive, construct and manage the MGA, Casualty & Financial Lines portfolio for the underwriting team which includes being a referral underwriter for the Facultative and Treaty team for those said lines.

Job Description:

Underwriting

• Underwrite MGA and Facultative Casualty & Financial Lines risks including as a 4-eye referral point for Financial Lines and Casualty classes for other divisions

People Management

• Guide the team on underwriting risk exposure analysis including motivating team to achieve higher standard of performance
• Supervise subordinates’ day to day activities

Training

• Conduct training periodically internally (underwriters, claims) and externally (clients)

Marketing

• Generate business through marketing efforts for MGA Casualty and Financial Lines risks

Portfolio Management

• Assist the Head in managing the portfolio through performance management reports and usage of analytics to optimize the portfolio

Strategy construction and execution

• Contribute to construction of strategy, execute and monitor business plans
• Focus on continuous process improvements to achieve higher operational efficiency

Job Requirements:

• Bachelor’s degree in any related field.
• Have a minimum of 5 years relevant working experience in the related function.
• Basic Treaty underwriting assessment including knowledge of Long Tail, Short Tail, Proportional Pricing Tool Fundamentals will be an advantage
• Expert in Casualty (CGL, Products Liability), Financial Lines facultative (D&O, PI, BBB, Medmal) risks assessment
• Intermediate to expert level of Excel with extensive usage of pivot tables, pivot charts and ability to cut and slice data from our internal booking system will be an advantage
• Self-starter and able to work independently on projects, tasks, and learning.
• Exceptional communication skills (written and verbal) - a clear articulation of ideas presented.
• Attention to detail and good judgment.
