Head of Marketing

Laines FinancialHove BN3 1DD

Head of Marketing Location: Central Brighton (onsite) Salary: £50,000–£75,000 depending on experience Job Type: Full-time, permanent

About the role Service Box is one of the UK’s fastest-growing providers of protection plans for household appliances, boilers, heating systems and heat pumps. We’ve protected more than 500,000 items for homeowners across the country. Our mission is simple: “To become the UK’s most trusted home protection provider” – delivering fast repairs, transparent pricing and no surprise costs.

While we’re no longer a start-up, we still have a strong start-up mentality: a fast-paced, enthusiastic, hands-on environment where people move quickly, test ideas and focus on what drives results.

We’re looking for a commercially driven, hands-on Head of Marketing to lead and develop our Marketing function as the business continues to grow. You’ll work closely with colleagues and partners to translate our 5-year business plan into a clear, deliverable marketing strategy with budgeted year-on-year outcomes, then help execute it. As results come through, you’ll have the opportunity to increase investment in the channels that work and to grow and develop the team around you.

In the early stages you’ll be hands-on in shaping and delivering key activity, while also supporting and developing others so the function can scale effectively. Over time the balance will shift toward strategic leadership and people development.

Your main priorities in the first year will be to help drive strong new customer acquisition with a focus on digital channels (SEO, PPC, website, social and AI exploration), support a successful go-to-market approach for our Heat Pump & Renewables offering, and ensure our brand and values come through clearly and consistently across customer touchpoints.

You’ll initially work alongside our existing agencies and consultants as part of a smooth handover and ongoing partnership.

The role requires strong commercial awareness so that KPIs such as CPL, CPA, CAC and ROI/payback are accurately tracked and used to guide decisions.

What you’ll do

  • Strategy: Work with the leadership team to review our business plan and develop a practical, year-on-year marketing strategy, plan and budget that supports our growth targets.
  • Acquisition and efficiency: Own customer and lead acquisition targets. Identify, test and scale the channels that bring in customers cost-effectively.
  • Paid media: Plan, build and optimise paid search, paid social and display campaigns across Google, Meta and other platforms (with the option to bring in specialist support as the function grows).
  • Comparison and affiliate channels: Help grow performance on the comparison and cashback sites we work with, including MoneySuperMarket, Compare the Market, TopCashback and Quidco.
  • Website and conversion: Improve landing pages, SEO and the quote/sign-up journey so more visitors become customers.
  • Retention and cross-sell: Develop email and SMS programmes for onboarding, renewals and cross-selling (for example, moving appliance customers onto boiler or heat pump cover).
  • Agencies and partners: Manage relationships with existing agencies, set clear briefs and targets, review performance and ensure they deliver value.
  • Data and reporting: Track and report on CPA, conversion rates, customer lifetime value and ROI, using the data to guide investment decisions.
  • Team development: Recruit, coach and develop marketing colleagues as the department grows, creating a high-performing, collaborative function.
  • Brand: Lead a refresh of the Service Box brand – including positioning, messaging, visual identity and tone of voice – and roll it out across the website, advertising, emails and other customer touchpoints in collaboration with colleagues.
  • Compliance: Ensure all marketing is clear, fair and compliant with ASA/CAP guidance and consumer protection rules.

Requirements

  • Experienced in both B2C and B2B marketing.
  • Experience in our sector or an adjacent industry (which may include regulated areas such as insurance, BAFS, energy or roadside assistance), for example appliance, boiler or home-care protection plans, warranties or home services.
  • Experienced at Head of Department level or above.
  • Experience in at least two start-ups or SMEs, where you built or significantly developed marketing capability with lean resources and grew contribution year on year.
  • A proven track record of delivering results with responsibility for budgets or revenue.
  • Strong hands-on skills with digital media platforms, including Google Ads, Meta Ads and LinkedIn.
  • A track record of growing customer and lead acquisition while improving efficiency (e.g. reducing CPA).
  • Energy, enthusiasm and creativity a must.
  • Based in or within easy commuting distance of Brighton.
  • Experience with marketing automation.
  • Experience with price-comparison, affiliate or cashback platforms.

How you work

  • Forward-thinking: You keep up with new platforms, trends and technology and bring fresh ideas.
  • Confident with AI: You use AI tools to work smarter, from content and creative to analysis and automation.
  • Test and learn: You’re willing to try new channels and audiences, learn quickly from the results and scale what works.
  • Commercial: You think in terms of CPA, lifetime value and ROI, not just clicks and impressions.
  • Collaborative: You work openly with colleagues, agencies and partners and help others succeed.

Our values

  • Trust: You’re honest and open, and you do what you say you’ll do.
  • Own It: We build trust through accountability.
  • Customer first: You put the customer at the center of every campaign and decision.
  • Stronger together: You work closely with colleagues and help others succeed.
  • Leave it better: You always look for ways to improve how we work.

Why join us? This is a chance to shape and grow the marketing function in a successful, expanding business. You’ll help lead a brand refresh, set the strategic direction and build the team, while staying close enough to the work to see the impact.

Our expectation is that the successful candidate will progress into a Director of Marketing or CMO role, depending on results and cultural fit.
