This role oversees all aspects of the flower shop, including floral design and production, retail operations, inventory management, procurement, product costing, merchandising, sales performance, customer experience, and team leadership. The Head Florist ensures the department operates efficiently, maintains exceptional product quality and presentation, minimizes waste, and achieves revenue, profitability, and customer satisfaction targets. The role also requires basic knowledge of ornamental plants to support retail sales and provide customers with plant care guidance. Key Responsibilities Floral Design, Plant Care & Product Excellence · Lead the design and production of premium floral arrangements for retail, corporate, weddings, events, and special occasions. · Develop seasonal collections, signature arrangements, and new floral products that align with the company's brand and customer demand. · Ensure the highest standards of floral artistry, product quality, presentation, and customer satisfaction. · Oversee the proper care, handling, storage, and display of fresh flowers, potted plants, and related products to maximize freshness and minimize waste. · Maintain basic knowledge of indoor and outdoor ornamental plants and provide customers with plant selection and care recommendations. · Monitor the health, quality, and presentation of flowers and live plants, coordinating with the Landscape and Garden teams on plant availability and inventory when required. Shop Operations Management Oversee the daily operations of the flower shop to ensure efficiency, cleanliness, and excellent customer service. Ensure compliance with company policies, operational procedures, and quality standards. Coordinate with Procurement, Events, Restaurant, Marketing, Finance, and Operations departments. Develop and maintain Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for all floral operations. Financial Management & Business Performance Monitor daily sales, revenue, and operational performance. Prepare and review sales reports, pricing structures, and department budgets. Develop product costing for all floral arrangements and monitor profit margins. Track Cost of Goods Sold (COGS), wastage, and operational expenses. Analyze sales trends and recommend strategies to improve revenue and profitability. Ensure accurate pricing of products while maintaining competitive margins. Inventory, Procurement & Supply Chain Plan and forecast flower and supply requirements based on seasonal demand, holidays, promotions, and scheduled events (including Valentine's Day, Mother's Day, Christmas, weddings, and corporate functions). Prepare purchase orders and coordinate with local and international suppliers. Monitor inventory levels of flowers, plants, packaging, ribbons, containers, and related materials. Conduct regular stock counts and inventory reconciliations. Implement inventory control measures to reduce waste and stock losses. Track supplier performance, delivery schedules, and product quality. Sales & Customer Relations Drive retail and event sales by developing attractive floral collections and promotional campaigns. Assist customers with consultations, quotations, and customized floral solutions. Work closely with the Marketing team on seasonal promotions and new product launches. Build long-term relationships with corporate, hospitality, and event clients. Administration & Systems Maintain accurate records for inventory, purchasing, costing, supplier information, and sales. Utilize POS and inventory management systems to monitor stock movement and financial performance. Generate daily, weekly, and monthly operational reports. Ensure accurate product coding, pricing, and inventory records within company systems. Staff Leadership & Development Recruit, train, supervise, and mentor florists and floral assistants. Prepare staff schedules and allocate daily responsibilities. Conduct performance evaluations and identify training opportunities. Foster a collaborative, customer-focused, and creative working environment. Ensure compliance with workplace health, safety, and hygiene standards. Qualifications Bachelor's degree or diploma in Floristry, Horticulture, Business Administration, Hospitality Management, or a related field is an advantage. Minimum of 5 years of professional floristry experience, including at least 2 years in a supervisory or managerial role. Strong knowledge of floral design, flower care, inventory management, purchasing, and merchandising. Experience with POS systems, inventory software, Microsoft Excel, and reporting tools. Good understanding of budgeting, product costing, inventory valuation, COGS, and Profit & Loss (P&L). Strong leadership, organizational, communication, and customer service skills. Basic knowledge of ornamental plants, indoor plants, and general plant care. Understanding of common plant diseases, pests, and preventive care is an advantage. Experience selling or merchandising potted plants is preferred but not required. Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) Monthly sales and revenue growth. Gross profit margin and department profitability. Inventory accuracy and stock variance. Reduction in floral waste and shrinkage. Customer satisfaction and repeat business. On-time fulfillment of retail and event orders.
