Head of Financial Lines Underwriting

Job Scope

• Lead and manage the underwriting unit for Financial Line of business.
• Portfolio monitoring for Financial Line of business.
• Maintain profitability of Financial Lines business (LOB).

Main Responsibilities

• Lead and manage the Financial Lines underwriting team to ensure effective risk assessment, sound underwriting governance, and achievement of business objectives.
• Develop and implement business growth strategies for targeted Financial Lines products, focusing on profitable growth, market development, and portfolio sustainability.
• Ensure appropriate treaty protection is in place to support the underwriting portfolio and align with the Company's risk appetite and underwriting strategy.
• Oversee and approve underwriting decisions involving complex and large-value accounts, ensuring sound, commercially balanced, and compliant risk assessments.
• Conduct regular portfolio analysis and implement corrective actions to optimize performance and profitability.
• Assign and delegate underwriting authorities based on experience, competency, skills, and underwriting capabilities.
• Ensure high-quality service delivery to internal and external customers in accordance with agreed service standards and timelines.
• Organize and deliver technical training and knowledge-sharing sessions to enhance underwriting capabilities and consistency.
• Ensure adherence to Group Underwriting Guidelines and all applicable legal, regulatory, and statutory requirements.
• Undertake additional responsibilities, assignments, and special projects as assigned.

Education

• AMII / ACII / DMII or equivalent insurance qualifications.
• Bachelor's Degree in a related discipline is preferred.

Experience

• Minimum 15 years of underwriting experience, preferably with substantial exposure to Financial Lines risks and portfolios.
• Minimum 3 to 5 years in a managerial capacity.

• Ability to work independently and make sound underwriting decisions while managing multiple priorities.
• Strong negotiation and interpersonal skills.
