Head of Data Platform

We are looking for a Head of Data Platform to lead a multi-stage platform modernisation programme delivered with an external partner, then runs and grows the platform the team inherits.

Responsibilities:

• Own the Git repository structure and branching standard for all pipelines, transformations and report definitions.
• Maintain the data catalog, business glossary, and end-to-end data lineage. Implement automated data quality monitoring and lead formal access control reviews.
• Lead the Microsoft Fabric readiness assessment and own the migration roadmap, including capacity and licensing planning.
• Manage partner scope, change control, stage sign-offs and effort against agreed caps.
• Own the platform budget, including Azure and Fabric subscriptions and licences.

Requirements:

• 10+ years in data engineering or data platforms, including 4+ years leading a platform or data engineering team.
• Strong background in data architecture and enterprise reporting, able to build on an existing architecture rather than replace it.
• Proven record of bringing platform discipline to a data function: version control, environments, CI/CD, release and rollback, runbooks and rehearsed recovery.
• Hands-on experience establishing metadata management: catalog, business glossary, lineage, data quality and access reviews.
• Microsoft Azure data stack : Azure Data Factory, Synapse or Databricks, Data Lake Storage, Azure DevOps or GitHub.
• Microsoft Fabric : hands-on knowledge or a migration completed or planned; capacity and licensing models.
• DataOps / DevOps : Git branching strategies, CI/CD for pipelines and Power BI, environment promotion, release and rollback.
