Head of Commercial, AI Programmes
Head of Commercial, AI Programmes
TechNative Digital · Hybrid, Brighton · Permanent, full time
A unique role, blending commercial and operational skillsets.
- Build a new AI focused business unit
- Win the clients and operationalise the delivery
- Help growing companies lead with AI, with confidence and a plan
ABOUT TECHNATIVE DIGITAL
TechNative Digital delivers employer-led Skills Bootcamps and innovation programmes that connect people, education and industry across Sussex and beyond. Our programmes are co-designed with industry and built around hands-on, work-like projects.
Almost all of our income today comes from publicly funded skills provision. That work is good, but it is a single channel. This role leads the second income line: Leading with AI, the programme businesses choose to buy from us, on our own terms.
We are not another AI training vendor. Employers already know us as an Ofsted-inspected training provider that delivers to a high standard. That trust gets us into rooms that a new AI vendor would struggle to reach.
WHAT WE SELL
Most businesses already use AI tools. Few have decided who owns AI, what data can go where, or how their managers should lead people who use it. Leading with AI is a six to eight week programme, blending consultancy and training, that gives leadership teams an AI strategy they can implement, and the skills and confidence to lead it.
THE ROLE: ESSENTIALLY A START-UP WITHIN TECHNATIVE
We have the foundations in place. Your job is to sell it, run what you sell, and build the engine around it.
You are accountable for selling Leading with AI, and you own the operation that delivers it. This is a seller-first role: revenue, conversion and account growth are yours. Operations are in the remit too, so nothing sold falls through the gap between a signed proposal and a satisfied client. Once Leading with AI is generating cash, a part-time coordinator takes the operational so you stay selling. As it grows, you build the team that runs your playbook.
WHAT YOU WILL BE DOING
Sales
- Find, qualify and win companies, against a year-one sales target of £130,000 to £200,000 with the pipeline you build
- Build a target list of around 100 growing mid-sized firms that use AI without a plan, and work the warm channels
- Own the marketing and sales plan, and represent us at events and professionally
- Hold sales conversations, send proposals and close
- Oversee each leadership diagnostic, run by you or a Facilitator
Growing accounts
- Stay close to every client after delivery, using HubSpot
- Scope and sell follow-on work: function programmes, build support, policy writing and the six-monthly sense check
Running the operation
- Own each engagement from signature to closing review: dates, rooms, the facilitator booked and briefed, and between-session tasks chased
- Manage the Associate Facilitators: availability, day rates agreed in advance, and briefings
Commercial management
- Run the pipeline in HubSpot, and forecast revenue and cash flow
- Produce internal reports on pipeline, conversion, revenue, cash and contribution per engagement
WHO YOU ARE
Five things are essential:
- Consultative selling: a proven record of consultative B2B selling to senior decision-makers, originating and closing, from at least five years in a commercial role. You enjoy it.
- Current AI expertise: hands-on, current AI expertise in business, enough to explain to a sceptical CEO what today's tools can and cannot do, and to show it working.
- Leadership workshops and judgement: experience of running discovery sessions or workshops with leadership teams, and the judgement to know what to say yes to, what to price separately and what to turn down.
- An organised operator: you own the CRM and the records, report against targets without being chased, and can run an engagement from signature to closing review: dates, rooms, facilitator, invoice.
- Clear, direct communication: in writing and in person, including persuasive proposals, with the self-direction to set the pace, spot the risks and make decisions.
Desirable
- Experience of selling training, consultancy, change management or professional services
- Familiarity with the Sussex business community: the chambers, the tech networks, the employer landscape
- HubSpot as your system of record
You will also recognise yourself in these:
- You would rather hear no early. You qualify hard, move the date when the decision-maker cannot attend, and do not travel for nothing.
- You work well on your own. You set your own priorities and keep things moving without waiting to be told.
- You care why it matters. This is a chance to build something commercially valuable with a wider social impact.
