This is a graduate-level commercial administration role sitting at the centre of the business's day-to-day trading and operational activity. The successful candidate will support stock control, help monitor the company's hedge position in nickel units, process outturns from material sorts, and liaise directly with suppliers across international markets. The role demands excellent literacy and numeracy above all else: the postholder will be working with figures, contracts, and correspondence daily, and accuracy in both is critical given the high value of the material being handled. Key Responsibilities Maintain accurate stock records across the site, reconciling physical material against system records and flagging discrepancies promptly. Support monitoring of the company's hedge position in nickel units, working with the trading/finance team to track exposure against physical stock and LME positions. Process and record outturns from sorts — the assay and yield results from processed scrap — ensuring results are logged accurately and queried where figures look inconsistent. Liaise with suppliers internationally, handling day-to-day commercial correspondence, confirming shipment details, resolving queries, and maintaining strong working relationships across time zones and, in some cases, languages. Prepare and check commercial documentation, including purchase and sales contracts, weight notes, and settlement calculations. Produce regular reports on stock position, hedge exposure, and supplier performance for management review. Support the wider commercial team with ad hoc administrative and analytical tasks as the business requires. Person Specification Qualifications — Essential A degree (2:1 or above, or equivalent) in a discipline with a strong quantitative or analytical component — for example economics, finance, business (quantitative pathway), mathematics, statistics, chemistry, materials science/metallurgy, or engineering. Strong A-level (or equivalent) results in Mathematics and English, evidencing the numeracy and literacy the role demands. Qualifications — Desirable A degree with direct relevance to metals, materials, or commodities — e.g. materials science, metallurgy, chemistry, or economics/finance with a commodities focus. Evidence of coursework, a dissertation, or a placement involving data analysis, financial markets, or industrial/technical processes. A second language relevant to the company's international supplier base. Experience — Essential None required — this is a graduate-entry role — but any internship, placement, or part-time work demonstrating administrative accuracy, numerical work, or customer/supplier-facing communication will be well regarded. Experience — Desirable Prior exposure to commodities, metals, trading, or manufacturing/processing environments (via internship, placement year, or family/industry familiarity). Experience using ERP, stock control, or accounting systems, or advanced Excel work (e.g. reconciliations, pivot tables, formula-driven models). Skills & Competencies Excellent numeracy: comfortable working with figures at pace and spotting when something doesn't add up. Excellent written and verbal communication, with the ability to write clear, professional correspondence to international suppliers. High attention to detail and a methodical approach to record-keeping. Strong Excel/IT skills, with the ability to learn internal systems quickly. Confident escalating discrepancies in figures that carry real financial consequence, rather than letting them pass. Organised and able to manage multiple ongoing tasks (stock, hedging, sorts, supplier queries) in parallel. Cultural awareness and professionalism when dealing with international counterparties across different time zones. A genuine interest in learning the technical side of the business (alloy composition, sorting/assay processes, metals markets). Personal Attributes Trustworthy and discreet, given the sensitivity and value of the material and commercial information handled. Proactive and willing to ask questions rather than guess, particularly in the early months. Resilient and calm under time pressure, e.g. around month-end reconciliations or urgent shipment queries.
