General Manager - HV Substation Design Consultancy - Dubai

Flow & Systems Partners, is conducting a confidential search for a General Manager for a well-established high-voltage engineering consultancy in Dubai.

The company has more than 15 years of track record in HV substation design up to 132kV, long-standing approvals with the main UAE utilities, and a team of around 50 engineers across Dubai and Abu Dhabi. Ahead of a planned strategic investment to accelerate its growth, the founder is looking for a successor to work alongside him for a year and then lead the business.

The role

• Year one: transition. Work side by side with the founder. Build relationships with clients and authorities, learn how projects are delivered, and take on commercial and financial responsibilities step by step.
• From year two: full leadership. Full P&L and operational responsibility for the ~50-person technical organisation: engineering delivery, commercial performance, client relationships and team development.
• Growth agenda. Strengthen the core business with utilities and master developers, grow in Abu Dhabi, and open selected adjacent segments such as data centres and grid integration.
• Location. Based in Dubai, with regular travel to Abu Dhabi.

What we are looking for

Leadership and business

• Proven P&L leadership of a professional-services or engineering-consulting business, with direct responsibility for teams of 30+ people.
• Commercial skill in a services firm: tendering, pricing, margin management, working capital and client development. A product or equipment-supply background is not a substitute, because the value of this business is its people’s knowledge.
• Ability to retain and develop senior engineers.
• Genuine interest in a succession path and in working closely with a founder.

Technical and market

• 15+ years in HV/EHV transmission and distribution, ideally in consulting or engineering design, with a solid understanding of substation design and approval processes.
• Established relationships with UAE utilities and authorities (DEWA, TRANSCO/TAQA, ADDC/EAD, SEWA, FEWA). Individual registration or authorised-signatory status with any of them is a strong plus.

Other

• Fluent English required. Arabic is a plus.
