The post holder will provide leadership and support to Shop Managers, Duty Managers, staff and volunteers, promoting a positive and inclusive working environment and ensuring that the charity’s aims, values and objectives are reflected in all aspects of shop operations. The Senior Charity Shop Manager will provide cover for the Area Manager when required and must be able to drive and provide operational and emergency cover across all Danaher charity shops. The role requires a high degree of flexibility, and the post holder must be willing and able to work at other Danaher charity shops at short notice in response to operational requirements. Key Responsibilities 1. Retail Operations · Have overall responsibility for the effective day-to-day operation of the shop, ensuring that agreed operational, sales and presentation standards are consistently maintained. · Maintain high standards of merchandising, shop-floor presentation and customer service in accordance with the charity’s retail standards. · Manage the receipt, processing and distribution of donated stock, working closely with van drivers and other shop teams to ensure stock is processed efficiently and to the required standards of quality, cleanliness and presentation. · Ensure stock processing levels are sufficient to maintain appropriate shop-floor density and maximise sales opportunities. · Ensure shop window displays are regularly reviewed and rotated to maintain an attractive, relevant and commercially effective presentation. · Ensure high standards of cleanliness, tidiness and presentation are maintained throughout the shop, including shop-floor and back-of-house areas. · Ensure the shop floor is cleaned, hoovered and appropriately replenished and tidied at the end of each trading day. · Ensure shop windows are checked regularly and maintained in a clean, tidy and inviting condition. · Manage the two-week stock rotation of all shop-floor departments effectively to maximise customer footfall, customer engagement and sales. · Work collaboratively with other Shop Managers to request, exchange and offer stock rotations, ensuring stock availability and levels are optimised across the charity’s retail network. · Monitor and evaluate sales performance, identifying opportunities to maximise income from donated goods. · Identify suitable donated items for sale through the charity’s E-Commerce platforms and work collaboratively with the relevant E-Commerce team to maximise income opportunities. · Discuss and implement agreed sales promotions and retail initiatives in conjunction with the Retail Manager. · Ensure all shop activities contribute to the achievement of the charity’s overall retail objectives and income targets. 2. Staff and Volunteer Management · Provide effective leadership and management to Shop Managers, Duty Managers, staff and volunteers within the shop. · Manage staff-related matters appropriately, including attendance, sickness absence, annual leave and other HR matters, in accordance with the charity’s policies and procedures. · Develop and maintain a positive, inclusive and supportive working environment in which staff and volunteers are valued, respected and appropriately utilised. · Ensure staff and volunteers receive appropriate training, support, guidance and development to enable them to undertake their roles effectively. · Prepare and manage staff and volunteer rotas to ensure appropriate staffing levels are maintained and agreed shop opening hours are consistently adhered to. · Proactively support the recruitment and retention of volunteers in conjunction with the Volunteer Manager. · Ensure the charity’s volunteer application and recruitment procedures are followed correctly and consistently. · Provide appropriate support and guidance to prospective volunteers throughout the application process where required. · Ensure all new volunteers receive an appropriate induction and are adequately trained before undertaking duties within the shop, in accordance with guidance provided by the Volunteer Manager. · Demonstrate and promote consistently high standards of customer service and professional behaviour. · Provide regular guidance, feedback, coaching and support to staff and volunteers, addressing areas for improvement constructively and appropriately. · Promote effective communication and teamwork within the shop and across the wider retail operation. · Attend staff meetings, management meetings and other meetings as required. · Complete all mandatory and role-specific training within the required timescales. · Attend external and internal charity events mid-week and weekends as required. 3. Health, Safety, Security and Safeguarding · Ensure the shop operates in full compliance with relevant health and safety legislation, charity policies, procedures and guidance. · Ensure all required health and safety checks are completed at the prescribed intervals and accurately recorded in accordance with the relevant Health and Safety Handbook. · Identify and address potential health and safety risks promptly and report significant concerns to the Retail Manager without delay. · Ensure all accidents, incidents and near misses are recorded and reported in accordance with the charity’s established procedures and Health and Safety Policy. · Ensure staff and volunteers understand and comply with fire safety procedures, including evacuation procedures, emergency exit routes and designated assembly points. · Ensure appropriate security procedures are implemented and consistently followed within the shop. · Maintain a safe and secure environment for staff, volunteers, customers and visitors. · Ensure appropriate safeguarding procedures are followed and that staff and volunteers understand their responsibilities in relation to safeguarding. · Ensure the confidentiality and security of personal and sensitive information relating to staff, volunteers, customers and the charity are maintained at all times. · Take appropriate action where any health, safety, security or safeguarding concern is identified and escalate matters to the relevant manager where necessary. · Attend regular meetings, training and other required sessions at Danaher Head Office in Wethersfield. 4. Financial Management and Income Generation · Take responsibility for achieving agreed shop sales and income targets and contribute to the achievement of wider retail objectives. · Monitor shop performance against agreed targets and identify appropriate actions to improve sales and income. · Ensure direct shop costs and expenditure are appropriately controlled and kept to a minimum without compromising operational effectiveness or compliance. · Maximise Till Round-Up donations and Gift Aid income from donated goods by ensuring all staff and volunteers receive appropriate training and consistently follow the charity’s procedures. · Monitor compliance with till procedures and work with the Area Manager to identify, address and follow up any instances where procedures are not being followed. · Ensure all cash handling, till management, daily banking and financial security procedures are followed accurately and consistently. · Ensure all financial records, administration and required paperwork are completed accurately and within the required timescales. · Identify opportunities to increase income from donated stock through effective pricing, merchandising, E-Commerce and promotional activity.
