The successful candidate will prepare and serve beverages, support the bar team with stock control and cleanliness, assist with club events and matchdays, and ensure that all bar duties are carried out in accordance with the Club’s procedures, premises licence, and relevant legislation. This is an important front-of-house role, helping to promote the club positively within the local community and ensuring that members and visitors receive a consistently high standard of service. Key ResponsibilitiesBar Operations and Customer Service - Deliver excellent customer service to all members, guests, and visitors. - Prepare and serve alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages efficiently and professionally. - Ensure customers receive prompt, courteous, and friendly service. - Handle customer queries and refer complaints or concerns to the Bar Supervisor, Clubhouse Manager, or Designated Premises Supervisor where appropriate. - Promote additional sales opportunities and upselling where suitable. - Maintain a welcoming, friendly, and inclusive clubhouse atmosphere. - Keep up to date with current promotions, events, and new products. - Support the smooth running of the bar during busy periods, matchdays, functions, and club events. Licensing, Compliance and Responsible Service - Follow the Club’s premises licence requirements, licensing procedures, health and safety rules, and operational policies. - Apply responsible alcohol service procedures at all times, including appropriate age verification. - Refuse service responsibly and appropriately where customers are underage, intoxicated, or behaving in an unacceptable manner. - Report refusals of service, incidents, accidents, complaints, licensing concerns, or other significant issues promptly to the Bar Supervisor, Clubhouse Manager, or Designated Premises Supervisor. - Maintain confidentiality and handle customer, club, and operational information appropriately. - Complete any required licensing, safety, or incident records accurately. Teamwork and Shift Support - Work collaboratively with other bar staff and club employees. - Follow instructions from the Bar Supervisor, Clubhouse Manager, and Designated Premises Supervisor. - Assist colleagues during busy service periods and provide support where required. - Participate in shift briefings and handovers. - Help new or less experienced colleagues become familiar with bar procedures. - Contribute to a positive, respectful, and professional team environment. - Raise operational issues promptly with the appropriate manager. Operational Duties - Assist with opening and closing procedures, depending on shift requirements. - Set up and prepare the bar and clubhouse areas for service. - Ensure the bar, front-of-house areas, and toilet facilities are clean, tidy, and well presented. - Assist with deliveries, checking goods against delivery notes and reporting discrepancies. - Store products safely and maintain appropriate stock rotation. - Support cellar management and report any issues with equipment, refrigeration, or stock. - Assist with end-of-shift cash-handling procedures in accordance with Club policy. - Record external booking enquiries and pass relevant information to the Clubhouse Manager. - Report maintenance, safety, equipment, or supply issues promptly. Stock Control and Inventory - Monitor stock levels during shifts and report replenishment requirements. - Assist with stocktakes and maintain accurate stock records. - Rotate products correctly and help minimise waste, breakages, and stock loss. - Ensure stock is stored safely and appropriately. - Support the maintenance of agreed stock levels to facilitate smooth day-to-day operations. Club Support and Community Engagement - Represent Grasshoppers RFC in a positive, professional, and enthusiastic manner. - Support club fundraising initiatives, social events, functions, and matchday activities. - Help create a friendly and inclusive environment for members, visitors, and the wider community. - Promote the values and reputation of Grasshoppers RFC at all times. - Undertake other reasonable duties related to the effective operation of the clubhouse bar. Skills and Experience Required - Previous experience in a bar, hospitality, catering, or customer-facing role is desirable. - Strong customer service and communication skills. - Ability to work effectively as part of a team. - Good attention to detail and a reliable approach to completing tasks. - Ability to remain calm, polite, and professional in a busy environment. - Basic cash-handling ability and willingness to follow financial procedures. - Awareness of responsible alcohol service and age-verification requirements. - Knowledge of cellar management, stock control, or licensing procedures is desirable but not essential, as training will be provided. - Flexible approach to working evenings, weekends, matchdays, functions, and club events. - Ability to follow instructions, club procedures, and health and safety requirements. - Previous experience using a till or electronic point-of-sale system is desirable. Employment Details - Role: Full-Time Bar Staff - Location: Grasshoppers RFC Clubhouse - Hours: Full-time hours, including evenings, weekends, matchdays, and club events - Reports to: Bar Supervisor and Clubhouse Manager - Key working relationships: Bar team, Clubhouse Manager, Designated Premises Supervisor, club committees, members, guests, and visitors Pay: £13.00 per hour Expected hours: 35.0 – 40.0 per week Work Location: In person
