About the Role As a Front End Design Engineer, you will help shape and build Hume’s product surfaces, including our developer console and real-time voice interfaces. You will work closely with engineering, product, and design to turn complex capabilities into clear, useful experiences. This role combines frontend engineering with strong visual and interaction judgment. You will own work from early product and design decisions through implementation, testing, and production, with attention to both how an interface works and how it feels. What You’ll Do Design, build, and maintain product interfaces for Hume’s voice AI platform and developer tools. Translate complex workflows into intuitive navigation, clear information hierarchy, and polished interactions. Build responsive interfaces that handle live audio, asynchronous state changes, loading, errors, and interruptions thoughtfully. Develop reusable components and contribute to a consistent design system across our products. Collaborate with backend engineers to integrate APIs and bring new platform capabilities into the user experience. Improve frontend performance, accessibility, reliability, and test coverage. Gather feedback, evaluate tradeoffs, and iterate on the details that make a product easier to use. Document design decisions and implementation patterns so the team can build on your work. What You’ll Bring Professional experience shipping frontend software used by real customers. Strong JavaScript or TypeScript skills and experience with a modern component-based framework such as React. Demonstrated visual and interaction craft, with examples of interfaces you helped design and build. Experience translating product requirements into maintainable, tested frontend code. Strong fundamentals in HTML, CSS, browser behavior, responsive design, and accessibility. The ability to reason through complex application state and communicate clearly about technical and product tradeoffs. A strong sense of ownership, attention to detail, and the ability to work independently in a small team. The ability to use AI-assisted coding tools effectively while remaining able to explain, validate, debug, and modify the resulting code. Bonus Points Experience building enterprise SaaS products, developer consoles, dashboards, or other data-dense applications. Ownership of a design system or reusable component library. Experience with real-time interfaces, streaming data, WebSockets, or browser audio. A portfolio demonstrating thoughtful motion, interaction detail, and frontend performance work. Compensation Range: $190K - $260K
