Fraud Risk Manager

Why this role matters

The Fraud Risk Manager protects Argos and Nectar by leading the proactive identification, assessment and investigation of suspected and confirmed fraud. The role helps safeguard financial performance, customers, colleagues, brand reputation and legal and regulatory compliance by ensuring fraud risks are understood and addressed effectively.

Reporting to the Head of Central Operations, the role provides Argos-wide fraud oversight and works across Argos Retail, Digital, Technology, Contact Centres, Logistics, Finance, People, Legal, Loss Prevention and Nectar. It leads complex and sensitive investigations, turns intelligence into action and makes clear recommendations that strengthen controls, reduce loss and prevent fraud from recurring.

What I am accountable for

Lead the delivery of the Argos fraud risk plan, setting clear priorities and translating emerging threats, intelligence and business change into proportionate action.

Own the proactive identification, assessment and investigation of suspected and confirmed fraud affecting Argos and Nectar, ensuring cases are handled objectively, confidentially, lawfully and at appropriate pace.

Lead complex end-to-end investigations, securing and assessing evidence, establishing the scale and cause of loss and making fact-based recommendations on criminal, civil, disciplinary or control actions.

Use data and intelligence to identify fraud trends, control weaknesses and vulnerabilities across stores, digital channels, contact centres, logistics, payments, customer journeys and Nectar activity.

Provide clear fraud risk advice to senior leaders and cross-functional teams, influencing commercial, customer, operational and technology decisions to reduce exposure while protecting the Argos and Nectar experience.

Set and maintain effective Argos fraud governance, investigation standards, policies, procedures and reporting, ensuring decisions and information-sharing comply with relevant law and data protection requirements.

Lead, coach and develop Investigation Managers and Specialists, setting clear accountabilities and performance expectations and building strong investigation, analytical and fraud-risk capability.

Build productive relationships with Nectar teams, law enforcement, external agencies, industry partners and third-party suppliers to improve intelligence, investigation outcomes, asset recovery and fraud prevention.

Oversee relevant supplier performance and expenditure within delegated authority, ensuring activity is risk-based, cost-effective and delivers measurable value.

Turn investigation findings and root-cause analysis into practical recommendations, tracking agreed actions and sharing learning to strengthen controls and prevent repeat loss across Argos and Nectar.

What I need to know

These are key skills, experience and qualifications required to succeed in this role:

Strong knowledge of fraud risk management and complex investigations, including evidence gathering, interviewing, case management and root-cause analysis in a commercial environment.

Sound knowledge of relevant criminal and civil law, the criminal justice system, rules of evidence, data protection and lawful information-sharing.

Strong analytical, numerical and critical-thinking skills, with the ability to interrogate data, assess intelligence and communicate a clear risk narrative.

Experience of identifying weaknesses in systems, processes and controls and translating findings into proportionate, commercially practical improvements.

Strong leadership and people-management skills, with the ability to set direction, build capability and maintain high standards across sensitive investigations.

Excellent communication and influencing skills, with the judgement and credibility to advise senior stakeholders and work effectively with law enforcement, external agencies and suppliers.

Ability to make balanced decisions in complex or ambiguous situations, prioritising activity according to risk, customer and colleague impact, potential loss and likely value.

Knowledge of retail, digital, payments, loyalty or customer-service fraud risks is valuable, but the ability to transfer relevant fraud and investigation expertise into the Argos and Nectar environment is equally important.

Strong planning and prioritisation skills, with the flexibility to support serious cases and travel to Argos locations when required.
