Fleet Operations Manager
We are seeking a hands-on Fleet Operations Manager to oversee our fleet of approximately 50 company-owned vehicles and 50 drivers operating throughout the Maryland, DC, and Virginia area. Our fleet includes tractor trailers, roll-off trucks, flatbeds, bale trailers, and box trucks used for recycling collection. This is a highly operational role. Key Responsibilities Oversee daily fleet operations, including driver scheduling, dispatch, routing, and vehicle assignments . Hire, onboard, train, supervise, and conduct performance reviews for drivers. Manage attendance, performance issues, disciplinary matters, and driver complaints. Promote a strong culture of safety, accountability, and professionalism . Ensure compliance with DOT/FMCSA, CDL, drug & alcohol testing, hours-of-service, vehicle inspection, and other applicable regulations . Manage vehicle maintenance, inspections, repairs, breakdowns, and preventive maintenance schedules. Lead accident and incident management , including documentation, investigation, follow-up, and coordination with insurance and other parties. Respond to after-hours fleet and driver emergencies and participate in an on-call rotation. Manage relationships with maintenance facilities, towing companies, fuel providers, insurance companies, and other vendors. Monitor fuel usage, maintenance expenses, vehicle downtime, and other fleet costs. Use Linxup and other fleet technology to monitor vehicles and drivers and improve operations. Evaluate and implement improved GPS, telematics, routing, and fleet management technology . Maintain accurate records for vehicles, drivers, registrations, insurance, inspections, and compliance. Work closely with company leadership to improve fleet efficiency, control costs, and support company growth. What We're Looking For 3+ years of hands-on fleet, transportation, or logistics management experience. Experience managing commercial trucks and drivers , preferably a mixed fleet. Strong knowledge of DOT/FMCSA and transportation safety requirements . Proven ability to hire, lead, train, and hold drivers accountable. Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to make decisions quickly in a fast-paced environment. Excellent organizational and communication skills. Comfortable working around trucks, drivers, maintenance facilities, and fleet operations. Strong computer skills and experience with fleet/GPS/telematics systems. Bilingual English/Spanish preferred. We currently operate two plants (in Rockville, MD and Baltimore, MD) where the recyclables will be processed.
