This role is suited to an experienced engineer who is confident working independently across fire alarm installation, servicing, maintenance and fault finding. Applicants should have a minimum of 5 years' relevant experience and be comfortable taking responsibility for works from attendance through to completion. The successful candidate will work across a range of commercial, public sector, education and other occupied premises throughout Sussex and the surrounding areas. The Role Responsibilities will include: - Installation of conventional and addressable fire & Security alarm systems. - Servicing and preventative maintenance of existing fire alarm systems. - Fault finding, diagnosis and repair. - Testing and commissioning of fire alarm systems and associated equipment. - Installation and replacement of detectors, sounders, call points, interfaces and other devices. - Carrying out system modifications and additions. - Identifying defects and recommending appropriate remedial works. - Completing service reports, commissioning documentation and job records accurately. - Liaising professionally with clients, site representatives and other contractors. - Working independently and managing allocated jobs effectively. - Ensuring works are completed in accordance with relevant British Standards, manufacturer requirements and company procedures. - Maintaining high standards of workmanship, health and safety and site conduct. What We're Looking For We are looking for an engineer who is: - Experienced and technically competent within the fire & Security alarm industry. - Confident carrying out servicing, installation and fault finding independently. - Able to diagnose faults logically and efficiently. - Reliable, punctual and professional. - Able to communicate effectively with clients and colleagues. - Comfortable working across commercial and occupied premises. - Capable of organising their own workload and completing documentation accurately. - Committed to maintaining high standards of workmanship. Essential Requirements - Minimum 5 years' experience working with fire alarm systems. - Must live within Brighton or the immediate surrounding area. - Must hold a full UK driving licence. - Good working knowledge of conventional and addressable fire alarm systems. - Experience of servicing, fault finding, installation and commissioning. - Good understanding of BS 5839 and relevant fire alarm industry requirements. - Ability to work independently without constant supervision. - Must have the right to work in the UK. Desirable Experience / Qualifications - FIA or equivalent recognised fire alarm training. - Relevant electrical qualifications. - ECS / CSCS card. - Experience across multiple fire alarm manufacturers and systems. - Experience with fire alarm interfaces and associated systems. - Experience carrying out surveys and identifying remedial requirements. - Experience working within schools, local authority, commercial or public sector premises. The Position This is a permanent, full-time position for an experienced engineer looking to join an established Brighton-based contractor. The role will involve a mixture of planned servicing, reactive fault finding, installation, commissioning and remedial works. You will be expected to represent A J Taylor Electrical Contractors Ltd professionally while working on client sites and to deliver work to a consistently high standard. We are looking for an experienced engineer who takes pride in their work and is interested in becoming a long-term member of the team. Salary: Competitive and dependent on experience and qualifications, with overtime opportunities available.
