About the Role We are looking for an ambitious and commercially minded finance professional who is ready to take the next step in their career. This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced Management Accountant, Senior Management Accountant, Finance Manager or Assistant Financial Controller to step into a Financial Controller position. Reporting to the Group Finance Director, you will take ownership of the day-to-day finance function, ensuring robust financial controls, accurate reporting and meaningful financial insight to support business decision-making. This is a hands-on role within a lean and collaborative finance function, offering genuine responsibility and autonomy. The successful candidate will be someone who enjoys rolling up their sleeves, thrives in a fast-paced environment and is comfortable getting involved across a broad range of financial activities. You will work closely with the Group Finance Director, senior leadership team and operational and commercial stakeholders to drive improvements in business performance and profitability. Key Responsibilities - Take ownership of the day-to-day finance function, ensuring accurate reporting and robust financial controls. - Lead the month-end and year-end close processes, including balance sheet reconciliations and accruals. - Prepare, review and analyse monthly, quarterly, interim and annual financial reporting. - Lead budgeting, forecasting and longer-term financial planning activities. - Manage cash flow forecasting and monitor working capital performance. - Provide financial analysis and commercial insight to support strategic decision-making. - Develop and maintain effective financial policies, procedures and internal controls. - Manage VAT returns, tax compliance and other statutory reporting requirements, including R&D tax credits. - Act as a key point of contact for external auditors and advisors. - Oversee the outsourced payroll function, ensuring accuracy and compliance. - Develop and maintain relationships with banking partners. - Identify opportunities to improve finance processes, systems, reporting and efficiencies. - Support and develop members of the finance team. - Work closely with operational and commercial stakeholders to improve business performance and profitability. - Maintain awareness of relevant accounting standards, legislation and industry developments. About You You may currently be a Management Accountant, Senior Management Accountant, Finance Manager or Assistant Financial Controller looking to step into your first Financial Controller role. We're looking for someone with: - Significant hands-on experience producing management accounts and managing month-end processes. - Strong attention to detail. - Experience in cash flow forecasting, budgeting and financial forecasting. - Experience improving financial controls and processes. - Excellent Excel and financial systems skills. - Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities. - The confidence and willingness to lead, support and develop a finance team. - Strong communication and stakeholder management skills. - A proactive approach and willingness to challenge existing ways of working. - The confidence to take ownership, make decisions and drive improvements. Recognised accounting qualification, experience within a manufacturing environment and invoice financing knowledge are desirable but not preferred. Pay range and compensation package Salary: £50,000–£65,000 per annum, depending on experience and qualifications.
