Finance Manager

Greenfield Projects & Development LimitedHarpenden

Job Summary

Greenfield Projects delivers residential construction work and Greenfield Land & Property develops property. Our bookkeeping, VAT, CIS and payroll currently sit with external accountants. You will bring those processes in house, work closely with our existing office lead and produce useful monthly information for the directors. The external accountants will continue to handle statutory and specialist work.

Responsibilities

  • Manage financial accounting processes, review records and support accurate, timely reporting.
  • Run the day to day accounting records across both companies in Xero, including bank reconciliations, purchase ledger, supplier statements, expense records and month end.
  • Prepare VAT and CIS returns, manage the timetable and expected liabilities ahead of deadlines, and coordinate payroll for four PAYE staff and subcontractor records.
  • Check invoice accuracy and coding, resolve supplier and subcontractor account queries, and prepare payment runs with our office lead. Directors retain final payment authorisation.
  • Build practical monthly management accounts and a rolling cash forecast, explaining key movements, debtors, creditors and liabilities to the directors.
  • Work with the office lead, who handles client invoicing and communication, checks weekly labour invoices with site managers and manages supplier commission income.
  • Liaise with external accountants, improve our Xero and Hubdoc workflow, and help establish cost information that can support project reporting over time.

Requirements

· Substantial hands on SME finance experience and confidence owning a broad accounting workload. Construction or property experience is strongly preferred.

· Strong Xero skills and working knowledge of CIS, construction VAT and payroll, including knowing when specialist advice is needed.

· Experience producing management information and cash forecasts, with careful reconciliation and clear communication.

· AAT Level 4, part qualified ACCA or CIMA, or equivalent practical experience. We value proven capability over a particular qualification.

· A collaborative approach. You will work alongside, rather than manage, our established Head of Office and be comfortable helping a colleague develop finance skills.

Working pattern and progression

The role starts at 24 hours over three office based days each week. We will review the hours as the work is brought in house and the businesses grow. There is scope to develop the role towards broader financial control and, in time, to build support around it.
