We are looking for a dedicated Field IT Support Technician to join our Sheffield team. In this role, you will be the friendly, reliable face of ekte across primary and secondary schools in the region, supporting day-to-day operations while helping lead our schools on their journey toward fully cloud-enabled environments. What You'll Do - On-Site & Remote Technical Support: Travel daily to partner schools across Sheffield to resolve technical issues, provide hands-on hardware/software troubleshooting, and deliver escalation support for support tickets. - Network & Wi-Fi Diagnostics: Diagnose and resolve complex school infrastructure issues across VLANs, subnets, routing, DHCP/DNS, firewalls, and cloud-managed wireless networks (e.g., Cambium, Ruckus, Aruba). - Server & Virtual Machine (VM) Maintenance: Maintain, troubleshoot, and support legacy physical host servers running VMware vSphere / ESXi or Microsoft Hyper-V environments, managing virtual machines, storage allocations, and host performance. - Cloud Transformation & On-Premise Migration: Assist in preparing and transitioning schools from physical server infrastructure to modern, cloud-first setups utilizing Microsoft 365 , Google Workspace for Education , and Microsoft Intune/MDM . - Backup & Cyber Security: Manage physical and cloud-based backup solutions (e.g., Datto), apply system patches, and enforce DfE Digital & Cyber Security Standards to keep school networks resilient and compliant. - Client Relationship Building: Communicate clearly with non-technical school staff, SBMs, and Headteachers—explaining technical solutions in plain English and acting as a trusted advisor on site. What We Are Looking For Requirements: - Education IT Experience: Minimum 2 years of hands-on experience in an IT support role within a UK school, Multi-Academy Trust (MAT), or educational IT MSP environment. - Mobility: Full UK Driving Licence with access to your own reliable vehicle (required for daily site visits across Sheffield). - Server & Virtualization Expertise: Practical experience troubleshooting on-premise physical servers and hypervisors (VMware ESXi / Microsoft Hyper-V), including VM creation, snapshots, virtual networking, and storage management. - Advanced Networking & Wi-Fi: Strong capability in network troubleshooting—diagnosing issues with switches, VLAN tag/untag configurations, routing tables, DNS/DHCP, and enterprise wireless access points. - Cloud & Admin Skills: Experience managing Active Directory, Microsoft 365 Administration, Google Workspace Console, and Endpoint Management (Intune/MDM). - Communication & Mindset: Excellent interpersonal skills with an ability to simplify technical jargon for school staff. - Vetting: Willingness to undergo an Enhanced DBS (Disclosure and Barring Service) check. - Work Authorisation: Full right to work in the UK. Desirable Skills: - Prior hands-on experience performing server-to-cloud file or identity migrations (e.g., Active Directory to Entra ID / M365 / Google Workspace). - Experience with school-specific peripherals, door access systems (e.g., Paxton NET2), interactive displays, and DfE-compliant web filtering platforms (e.g., Smoothwall, Lightspeed). - CompTIA Network+, CCNA, Microsoft Certified Associate, or VMware VCP certifications.
