We are hiring a Fiber Splicing Project Manager to own splicing operations from crew assignment through close-out, billing, and customer delivery. Position Summary The Fiber Splicing Project Manager plans, schedules, and leads fiber splicing crews and subcontractors across active markets. This is a working leadership role responsible for production, quality, safety, training, customer communication, and accurate billing. Significant travel to job sites and customer markets is required. Key Responsibilities Crew Scheduling & Resource Management Build and maintain daily, weekly, and look-ahead crew schedules for in-house splicers and subcontractors. Assign work by skill level, equipment, location, and customer priority; balance multiple concurrent projects. Coordinate mobilization, lodging, vehicles, trailers, fusion splicers, OTDRs, and materials so crews arrive ready to produce. Adjust schedules for weather, customer change orders, restoration work, and night/weekend cutovers. Track headcount, production units, and capacity; flag resource gaps early. Training & Crew Development Onboard new splicers and leads; verify competency on fusion splicing, ribbon fiber, enclosures, testing, and documentation. Deliver and document field training on company methods, customer specs, and quality standards. Mentor junior splicers; evaluate performance and recommend promotions, coaching, or corrective action. Maintain training records and support certification paths (FOA/ETA or equivalent preferred). Safety & Compliance Enforce OSHA, NESC, DOT, and company safety requirements on every job. Ensure daily tailgates/JSAs, PPE, traffic control, and confined space/aerial practices are completed and documented. Conduct field safety observations and stop work when conditions are unsafe. Support incident reporting, near-miss capture, and corrective actions. Billing, Production Tracking & Close-Out Capture daily production (splices, enclosures, footage, testing, restoration) against contract units or T&M. Review timesheets, per diem, material tickets, and subcontractor invoices for accuracy before submission. Prepare and submit billing packages, as-builts, OTDR/OLTS results, and customer close-out documentation on time. Resolve billing discrepancies with operations, accounting, and the customer. Protect project margin by controlling overtime, rework, idle time, and material waste. Customer Relationship & Communication Serve as the primary field contact for customer construction managers, inspectors, and NOC/restoration teams. Provide clear daily/weekly progress updates, forecasts, and issue escalation. Walk jobs with the customer; resolve punch-list and quality items quickly. Protect customer relationships during outages, cutovers, and schedule conflicts. Coordinate with internal project managers, construction leads, and engineering on prints, splice matrices, and cut sheets. Travel & Field Presence Travel regularly across assigned markets and projects (expected 80%+ depending on workload), including overnight and multi-week assignments. Be present on critical splices, large cutovers, restorations, and customer ride-outs. Support night work, weekends, and on-call restoration as project and customer needs require. Valid driver’s license and ability to operate or travel with company vehicles required. Qualifications 8+ years hands-on fiber optic splicing experience (OSP aerial, underground, and/or FTTH). 5+ years supervising splicers, leads, or subcontract splicing crews. Proven ability to read splice diagrams, construction prints, and fiber assignment records. Working knowledge of fusion splicers, OTDR, power meter/OLTS, and acceptance testing standards. Experience with production tracking, unit billing or T&M billing, and close-out packages. Strong safety record and familiarity with OSHA field requirements. Clear written and verbal communication with crews and customers. Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Excel, Outlook) and willingness to use company scheduling/field apps. High school diploma or equivalent required; FOA CFOT/CFOS or equivalent a plus. Willingness and ability to travel extensively; valid U.S. driver’s license; acceptable MVR. Preferred Experience supporting Tier 1/2 providers (Lumen, AT&T, Charter, or similar). Prior work in multi-state contractor environments. OSHA 10/30, First Aid/CPR.
