About Schur-BPH Schur-BPH is a specialist engineering company and global leader in SIPP (Spray-in-Place Pipe) pipeline rehabilitation, providing specialist pipe-lining solutions, equipment, materials, contracting, training and technical support to customers in the UK and internationally. Job Purpose The Engineering & Operations Manager is responsible for the engineering, operational, project and commercial management of the pipelining and rehabilitation business. This is a hands-on management role. The successful candidate will work across the office, workshop and site environments and will be directly involved in the practical delivery of projects when required. This includes attending sites, supporting site teams, resolving technical and operational issues, dealing directly with customers and contractors, and taking ownership of problems through to resolution. The role requires a strong engineering background and recognised engineering qualification, together with practical site experience, project management capability, commercial awareness and the ability to develop customer relationships and new business. The position will also involve occasional overseas travel for projects, customer meetings, supplier and manufacturer visits, training and business development. Key Responsibilities Engineering & Project Delivery Manage pipelining and rehabilitation projects from enquiry through to completion. Provide technical and engineering support to projects and site teams. Review project requirements, surveys, specifications and technical information. Plan labour, materials, equipment and subcontract requirements. Monitor programme, quality, costs and project margins. Attend sites and become directly involved in project delivery and problem solving where required. Operations & People Manage day-to-day operations across the office, workshop and site. Coordinate site teams, workshop personnel, equipment, materials and subcontractors. Lead, manage and develop operational personnel. Ensure projects are properly resourced and delivered efficiently. Improve operational processes, productivity and working practices. Lead by example and maintain a practical, hands-on approach. Commercial & Business Development Prepare and review estimates, quotations and tenders. Monitor project costs, margins and profitability. Develop and maintain existing customer relationships. Identify and pursue new business and sales opportunities. Attend customer meetings and site visits. Develop relationships within the pipe lining, utilities, water, wastewater and civil engineering sectors. Support the Managing Director with business growth and commercial strategy. Health, Safety & Quality Ensure all work is carried out safely and in accordance with relevant legislation, company procedures and customer requirements. Ensure appropriate risk assessments, method statements and safe systems of work are implemented. Maintain high standards of workmanship and project delivery. Monitor quality and address issues promptly. Ensure employees and subcontractors follow required safety and quality procedures. Reporting & Continuous Improvement Report operational, project and commercial performance to the Managing Director. Identify and implement improvements to project delivery, efficiency and profitability. Ensure appropriate project documentation and reporting are maintained. Support the development of systems and processes as the business grows. Take ownership of operational and project issues and ensure they are resolved effectively. Required Skills & Experience Essential Significant practical engineering experience. Experience in a project-based engineering environment. Experience managing engineering projects and site operations. Strong practical engineering and problem-solving ability. Experience managing or supervising operational/site teams. Experience dealing directly with customers and contractors. Experience with estimating, quotations, tenders or project costing. Strong commercial awareness and understanding of project costs and margins. Good understanding of health and safety within engineering and site environments. Strong communication, leadership and decision-making skills. Full UK driving licence. Willingness to work on site when required. Willingness to undertake occasional overseas travel. Desirable Recognised engineering qualification – HNC, HND, Degree or equivalent. Experience in the pipe lining or pipe rehabilitation industry. Trenchless technology experience. Water or wastewater experience. Drainage or sewer rehabilitation experience. Utilities or underground infrastructure experience. Civil engineering or specialist contracting experience. Experience working with utilities, local authorities or major contractors. Relevant site qualifications. NEBOSH, IOSH or equivalent health & safety qualification.
