We have recently launched our luxury faux flower studio, offering artificial flowers and arrangements to purchase or hire. The role We are looking for someone with practical online retail experience to help establish and run our new faux flowers ecommerce business. Working closely with the owner, you will put the systems, suppliers and day-to-day processes in place to sell and deliver our products reliably and profitably. You will be sourcing suitable protective packaging, sourcing and negotiating courier services, calculating fulfilment and delivery costs, and setting up the operational side of the online shop. You should understand what a small online retailer needs to get up and running and be comfortable doing the work yourself. This is primarily an ecommerce operations and business management role. Marketing and social media will support the business, but applicants must bring direct experience of managing the practical operations of an online retailer selling physical products. Key responsibilities · Source and develop packaging: Work with packaging suppliers to specify box sizes, structural designs, inserts and protective materials that keep stems and arrangements secure in transit. Obtain samples, test packing methods and compare costs, minimum order quantities and lead times. The focus is protective and transit packaging, rather than logos or graphic design. · Source couriers and cost delivery: Compare courier services, negotiate suitable rates and understand parcel dimensions, weight limits, surcharges, insurance and damage claims. Establish practical delivery options and charges for customers, including larger or delicate arrangements. · Plan fulfilment: Set up clear processes for stock storage, inventory records, picking, packing, dispatch and returns. Help the team organise the workspace and choose whether orders are fulfilled in-house or through an external provider. Key responsibilities continued · Set up online retail operations: Coordinate product listings, stock availability, payments, delivery settings and order notifications on the ecommerce platform. Work with website support where needed and test the journey from placing an order to delivery and return. · Manage costs and trading: Calculate the full cost of each order, including packaging, handling, delivery and platform fees. Recommend pricing and delivery thresholds, manage agreed budgets and track sales, margins and operational performance. · Manage suppliers and customer service: Coordinate purchasing and replenishment, monitor supplier reliability and establish processes for customer enquiries, damaged items, refunds and delivery problems. · Support business growth: Identify practical improvements to the range, service and sales channels. Coordinate marketing support when needed, with the main focus on building a well-run online retail business. Essential experience and skills · Hands-on experience managing ecommerce operations for an online retailer selling physical products, ideally within a small or growing business. · Direct involvement in setting up an online shop, launching a product range or establishing and improving retail operating processes. · Practical experience sourcing protective packaging and working with suppliers on suitable materials, dimensions and packing solutions. · Experience selecting couriers, comparing delivery costs and managing fulfilment, stock control, returns and customer service. · Confidence using an ecommerce platform and understanding how product, stock, payment and delivery processes work together. · Commercial awareness, including costing orders, monitoring margins and managing suppliers and budgets. Strong organisation and the initiative to manage priorities within a part-time role. Useful additional experience Experience in homewares, interiors, lifestyle retail, floristry or another business selling fragile, bulky or presentation-sensitive products would be particularly valuable. Previous involvement in an ecommerce start-up or small owner-led retailer would also be an advantage. Marketing knowledge is useful, but operational retail experience is essential. What success looks like Over the six-month contract, you will establish tested packaging solutions, suitable courier arrangements, clear fulfilment costs and reliable stock, order and returns processes. The online shop should be ready to support profitable sales, with the team able to run its day-to-day operations confidently.
