Director, Supply Chain Operations
Director, Supply Chain Operations
Ashland, Oregon | Onsite 4 days a week, one remote | Regular travel required
The Mission
When inventory is wrong, everything downstream feels it: customers miss product, warehouses absorb cost, cash gets tied up, and teams spend time reacting instead of planning.
We're looking for a Director, Supply Chain Operations to own how Blue Marble plans inventory and moves product through its global supply chain. You'll connect demand planning, inventory, logistics, fulfillment, 3PLs, and supply chain systems into a more predictable and scalable operation.
This is a hands-on Director role. You'll set the operating rhythm, lead planning and logistics teams, and step into difficult cross-functional problems. The goal is to improve availability, inventory productivity, service, cost, and working-capital discipline together.
Can you improve service and inventory productivity at the same time - without solving one problem by creating another somewhere else?
If that challenge sounds familiar, keep reading.
What You'll Do
- Own the Plan. Lead the inventory-planning and S&OP rhythm across Sales, Product Development, Sourcing, Manufacturing, Operations, and Finance. Make demand, supply, inventory, launches, and risk visible enough for better decisions.
- Put Inventory to Work. Set inventory policies, safety stock, deployment methods, and review cadences that improve availability without making excess inventory the default answer. Track turns, GMROI, weeks of supply, fill rate, forecast accuracy, and working capital.
- Run the Network. Own the distribution and 3PL network, including partner selection, contracts, SLAs, KPIs, pricing, and capacity. Oversee domestic and international transportation, including ocean freight, customs, drayage, transloading, and distribution.
- Keep Every Channel Flowing. Position and replenish inventory across retail, wholesale, marketplace, distributor, and direct-to-consumer channels. Improve fulfillment performance, retailer compliance, and launch execution.
- Build Visibility. Create useful dashboards, KPI routines, and data governance across inventory, logistics, fulfillment, and partner performance. Improve how ERP, WMS, TMS, OMS, EDI/API, retailer, and marketplace data connect.
- Solve the Exceptions. Drive root-cause resolution on stockouts, excess inventory, transportation failures, chargebacks, deductions, compliance issues, and launch risks. Fix the system behind the issue instead of normalizing the workaround.
- Build the Team and the Standard. Lead and develop planning and logistics talent, clarify ownership, raise the quality of decision-making, and create operating processes that scale. Hold internal teams and external partners accountable while helping capable people grow.
What You Bring
- Systems Thinking. You see the connections among forecast, inventory, cash, service, freight, fulfillment, customer requirements, and systems. You do not optimize one function at the expense of the whole.
- Analytical Judgment. You can work with imperfect forecasts and conflicting inputs, distinguish signal from noise, and make a clear recommendation without pretending the data is certain.
- Commercial and Financial Fluency. You understand that supply chain decisions affect margin, working capital, revenue, storage, freight, and customer performance - not just operational KPIs.
- Cross-Functional Influence. You can align strong leaders who do not report to you, surface tradeoffs, and respectfully challenge assumptions when the operating evidence points somewhere else.
- Operational Ownership. You get into the details when needed, but your instinct is to build a better process or system so the same problem does not keep returning.
- People Leadership. You set clear expectations, develop capable people, address performance directly, and create an environment where problems surface early.
What It Takes
- Demonstrated leadership of integrated supply chain operations spanning planning and logistics/distribution in a consumer-products, retail, omnichannel, or similarly complex environment.
- Direct experience leading S&OP or an equivalent cross-functional planning process connecting demand, supply, inventory, launches, and financial tradeoffs.
- Evidence of improving inventory productivity, service, planning quality, logistics performance, cost, or working capital - and explaining what you changed and why it worked.
- Experience managing 3PLs, transportation/freight partners, and international import logistics, including partner performance and commercial accountability.
- Experience leading and developing supply chain teams, setting priorities, coaching judgment, and holding people accountable for outcomes.
- Strong analytical fluency with inventory, service, forecasting, logistics, and financial metrics and the ability to turn them into operating decisions.
- Working fluency with enterprise supply chain systems and data flows, including ERP plus relevant WMS, TMS, OMS, EDI/API, retailer, or marketplace integrations.
What Sets You Apart
- Amazon Vendor Central, FBA, direct-import programs, major retail/distributor operations, SKU-level inventory optimization, systems implementations, EDI/API integrations, ocean/customs operations, or network design will stand out. Consumer-products or toy experience is especially useful.
- Formal education in supply chain, business, engineering, analytics, or a related discipline can be useful, but it does not substitute for demonstrated judgment and results.
How We'll Measure Success
Product availability improves without excess inventory becoming the safety net. S&OP becomes trusted and useful. Inventory turns, weeks of supply, fill rate, OTIF, forecast accuracy, working capital, and fulfillment cost are visible and move in the right direction. Partners are managed against clear expectations, recurring exceptions decrease because root causes get fixed, and the team increasingly owns the work instead of waiting for escalation.
