Compensation - Base Salary: $100,000 per year. - Commission: Participation in the Sales department’s commission program Job Summary As the Director of Sales, Illinois for Sunderstorm Inc., you will own the Illinois market. Reporting directly to the Chief Revenue Officer, you will lead the Illinois sales team, own the state revenue plan, and be accountable for growing KANHA’s position in one of the most competitive and MSO-concentrated cannabis markets in the country. This is a hands-on, field-first leadership role: you will set the strategy, coach the team, carry the most important relationships yourself, and lead the launch of new product lines into the state. Your success will be measured by revenue growth, market share, account profitability, and the performance of the team you build. Essential Task, Duties and Responsibilities - Illinois Sales Strategy & Revenue Ownership: Develop and execute the annual and quarterly Illinois sales plan in partnership with the CRO. Own the state revenue budget, monthly forecasting, and rep quota setting, and deliver against plan across all Sunderstorm brands and categories sold in Illinois. - Team Leadership & Development: Lead, coach, and hold accountable a team of Illinois territory of 2+ sales subordinate team members. Run a consistent operating cadence of weekly pipeline reviews, monthly account workplans, ride-alongs, and quarterly performance reviews. Recruit and develop talent as the team grows, and build a high-performance culture centered on execution and accountability. - Key Account & MSO Relationship Management: Personally own Sunderstorm’s most important Illinois relationships, including category buyers at multi-state operator (MSO) retail chains and leading independent and social-equity dispensaries. Negotiate shelf placement, menu presence, promotional participation, and preferred-vendor status. Win new doors and grow share within existing accounts. - Portfolio Growth & Product Launches: Grow the KANHA product portfolio, including Rosin Belts, Rosin Sours, NANO, Classics, and Vape. Lead the Illinois go-to-market for new products from account targeting and sell-in through sell-through and reorder. - Profitability & Order Economics: Drive profitable growth, not just volume. Increase average order value and order consistency, manage trade spend, promotional allowances, and samples to measurable return, and partner with Finance on credit terms, credit holds, and timely collection of accounts receivable. - Data-Driven Decision Making: Use wholesale, retail sell-through, and market intelligence data (Acumatica, Hoodie Analytics, Headset/BDSA, Leaftrade, and others) to identify white space, win-back opportunities, and declining accounts. Translate the data into rep-level action plans and track execution against them. Deliver clear weekly and monthly reporting to the CRO. - Retail Execution & Trade Marketing: Execute the Illinois promotional calendar and seasonal campaigns in partnership with Marketing. Oversee budtender education, in-store merchandising, brand activations, and dispensary events to drive velocity and brand loyalty at the shelf. - Operations & Supply Collaboration: Work closely with the Lincoln, Illinois production and fulfillment teams on demand forecasting, inventory planning, order scheduling, and delivery to ensure the right product is in the right accounts at the right time. - Compliance & Risk Management: Ensure all sales and promotional activities comply with the Illinois Cannabis Regulation and Tax Act, state agency rules, packaging and marketing restrictions, and state seed-to-sale tracking requirements, as well as all company policies. - Market Intelligence & Executive Collaboration: Monitor the Illinois competitive landscape, pricing trends, and regulatory changes, and bring actionable insight back to the CRO and leadership team. Collaborate with Marketing, Finance, and Operations to align on pricing, product mix, and growth priorities. - Other duties as assigned Minimum Qualifications, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities - Experience: 8+ years of B2B or CPG sales experience, including at least 3 years leading a field sales team. At least 3 years of cannabis industry sales experience required; Illinois cannabis market experience strongly preferred. - Illinois Market Relationships: Established relationships with Illinois dispensary buyers, including MSO category managers and independent dispensary owners, and a working understanding of how the Illinois wholesale and retail market operates. - Leadership Excellence: Demonstrated success coaching sales representatives to quota, managing performance, and building a disciplined sales operating cadence. - Proven Results: A track record of growing territory revenue and market share, launching new products into retail, and consistently meeting or exceeding sales targets. - Financial Acumen: Strong understanding of sales forecasting, budgeting, trade spend, and account profitability. Ability to balance growth with margin and cash collection. - Analytical & Technology Proficiency: Highly proficient in Excel and CRM. Experience using retail sell-through and market intelligence tools (Hoodie Analytics, Headset) and ERP data to manage a business. - Communication & Influence: Excellent presentation, negotiation, and written communication skills, with the ability to influence buyers, lead a team, and report clearly to executive leadership. - Product Knowledge: Strong knowledge of cannabis edibles, vape, and pre-roll categories, including solventless and infused product formats, and the ability to educate buyers and budtenders on them. - Education: Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Sales, Marketing, or a related field preferred, or equivalent professional experience. - Travel & Physical Requirements: Based in the Chicago area with frequent travel throughout Illinois, including regular visits to the Lincoln facility and downstate markets, and occasional travel to company meetings out of state. A valid driver’s license and reliable transportation are required.
