# Director of Operations **Visit Spearfish** · Spearfish, SD 57783 · `On-site` 🕒 **Статус:** *Опубликовано: 3 дня назад* · *Источник: Indeed* --- ### About the Role Position Summary The Director of Operations is Visit Spearfish’s chief staff officer and is accountable to the Board of Directors for organizational performance, staff leadership, financial stewardship, human resources administration, compliance, facilities, visitor-center operations, and execution of Board-approved strategy. The position creates the systems and working environment that allow Visit Spearfish to fulfill its destination mission effectively, responsibly, and consistently. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Organizational Leadership and Board Relations · Serve as the Board’s direct staff contact and implement Board-approved policies, priorities, strategic plans, and budgets. · Prepare agendas, reports, recommendations, financial information, and organizational updates in coordination with Board officers. · Keep the Board informed of material operational, financial, personnel, legal, reputational, and strategic issues. · Represent Visit Spearfish in organizational, financial, contractual, governmental, and community relationships. · Coordinate organizational planning with the Director of Marketing so operations and marketing remain aligned with the mission. Staff Leadership and Human Resources · Directly supervise, coach, evaluate, and hold accountable the Director of Marketing and all other employees. · Establish work priorities, approve schedules and leave, assign resources, resolve competing requests, and maintain clear accountability. · Administer recruitment, hiring, onboarding, compensation, benefits, personnel records, performance management, discipline, and separation processes in accordance with Board policy and applicable law. · Maintain current position descriptions, personnel procedures, training expectations, and annual evaluation processes. · Support a respectful, mission-focused workplace with clear communication and appropriate professional development. Finance Administration and Compliance · Develop the proposed annual operating and personnel budgets in consultation with the Director of Marketing and present them for Board approval. · Oversee accounting processes, cash controls, payroll, purchasing, invoices, contracts, insurance, tax reporting, audits, grants, records, and financial reporting. · Monitor revenue, expenditures, cash flow, budget performance, internal controls, and compliance with funding or contractual requirements. · Maintain corporate records, policies, contracts, licenses, filings, and document-retention practices. · Coordinate with accountants, auditors, legal counsel, insurance providers, banks, vendors, and public partners as authorized. Operations Facilities and Visitor Services · Oversee staffing, schedules, facilities, security, maintenance, supplies, inventory controls, technology, and service accountability. · Ensure effective visitor-center operations, telephone and front-door coverage, visitor-information fulfillment, brochure inventory, and accurate visitor-service records. · Supervise the Visitor Services and Administrative Coordinator while ensuring appropriate support for both directors. · Maintain business continuity, safety, data protection, and emergency procedures appropriate to the organization. Destination Management and Partnerships · Understand Visit Spearfish’s destination strategy, brand promise, visitor markets, partner network, funding environment, and economic-development role. · Ensure financial, staffing, facility, and administrative decisions advance the destination mission and visitor experience. · Build productive relationships with the City of Spearfish, HBID, tourism businesses, community organizations, and other public and private partners. · Support destination stewardship, resident quality of life, visitor-service quality, and responsible tourism development. Decision Authority Within Board-approved policies and budgets, the Director of Operations has final staff authority over hiring, supervision, assignments, schedules, leave, evaluations, discipline, termination, contracting administration, purchasing, and allocation of organizational resources. The Director may delegate responsibilities but retains overall management and supervisory accountability. Matters reserved by law, bylaws, policy, or Board action remain with the Board of Directors. Required Qualifications · Bachelor’s degree in business administration, nonprofit management, finance, human resources, public administration, tourism, or a related field; comparable education and relevant experience may be considered. · Progressively responsible experience in organizational operations, budgeting, personnel administration, compliance, project management, or nonprofit or public-sector leadership. · Demonstrated ability to supervise employees, exercise sound judgment, protect confidential information, and communicate effectively with a governing board. · Working knowledge of financial statements, budgets, internal controls, payroll and benefits administration, contracts, records, and common office technology. · Understanding of destination organizations, tourism partnerships, visitor services, and marketing outcomes, or the ability to develop that knowledge promptly. Working Conditions The position is primarily office-based and requires regular interaction with staff, Board members, visitors, partners, vendors, and the public. Some early-morning, evening, weekend, event, and local travel responsibilities are expected.
