Now bring that to a growing civil engineering firm that builds the neighborhoods and sites of Central Texas. Mahoney Engineering is a 25-person civil engineering firm in Austin, growing 23% next year. We're looking for a Director of Operations to run day-to-day delivery across our Residential and Site Land Development teams, so our owners can focus on clients and growth. This is a seat with a clear path to COO for someone who wants to keep growing. What you'll do - Lead the delivery team. Lead our studio leaders, project managers and technical leads through weekly meetings and quarterly check-ins, and hold every team to its goals. - Put the right people on the right work. Own staffing and workload across both teams, resolve conflicts weekly, and flag hiring needs early. - Protect project profit. Own project budgets, margins and unbilled work, and fix overruns before they grow. - See around corners. Keep the backlog, staffing and revenue forecast current, and report results to leadership monthly. - Deliver for clients. Own delivery quality, handle escalations, and keep our QA/QC and delivery standards sharp across the firm. What you bring Military experience counts here. If you led engineers, construction or operations in the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Navy Civil Engineer Corps, Seabees, Army or Marine Corps engineer units, or Air Force civil engineering, we want to hear from you. Required - Bachelor's degree in civil engineering, construction management or a related field - 8+ years leading engineering, construction or operations teams, military or civilian - 3+ years leading other leaders and owning a budget or cost results - Experience with civil, site development or construction projects - A growth mindset: you seek feedback, learn fast and raise the standard of the people around you Preferred - Texas P.E. license (a plus, not required) - Experience in a civilian AEC (architecture, engineering and construction) firm - Familiarity with project accounting software (BQE Core, Deltek, Unanet or similar) - Experience with EOS or another structured operating system Why Mahoney - A real path up. This seat grows into VP of Operations and then COO within 2 to 3 years for the right leader. - Clear structure. We run on EOS, with a defined Accountability Chart, weekly scorecards and quarterly goals. You'll know what you own and how it's measured. - Impact you can see. You'll report to the firm's founder and shape how a growing firm delivers, not just keep a large one running. - A team that's building.
