POSITION SUMMARY
JAC Metal is seeking an experienced, practical, and people-focused Director of Operations to lead daily operations and help the company grow with stronger structure, communication, and accountability. JAC Metal specializes in large-scale pre-engineered metal building (PEMB) erection and commercial construction, with field crews working on multiple job sites across the country at the same time. This senior leadership role connects company direction with field and office execution, ensuring teams have clear priorities, dependable processes, and the support needed to deliver quality work safely, efficiently, and profitably.
The Director of Operations will own operational planning, team performance, project execution, resource coordination, and process improvement across the business, and will coordinate daily operations when the CEO is unavailable, within the authority the CEO has approved. The right person will be comfortable moving between strategic planning and day-to-day problem-solving, holding leaders accountable while building trust, and improving systems without creating unnecessary layers or paperwork. This role requires a visible, consistent presence in the Poolville office, regular time on job sites, and close partnership with the CEO, department leaders, project teams, and administrative staff.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Lead and coordinate day-to-day operations across office, field, project, and support functions.
- Lead day-to-day decisions on operations, scheduling, staffing, and crew assignments across all active job sites, within the budgets and authority limits set by the CEO.
- Own job-level profitability and growth targets, and report results and recommendations to the CEO.
- Final approval on manager hiring and terminations, major contracts, pricing, capital purchases, and company strategy remains with the CEO.
- Translate company goals into clear operational priorities, measurable expectations, and practical action plans.
- Work directly with the CEO on capacity planning, budgets, company growth, staffing needs, and operational strategy.
- Directly supervise and develop two Operations Managers, Project Coordinators, and Field Supervisors through clear expectations, coaching, follow-through, and consistent accountability.
- Monitor project performance, schedules, labor and resource needs, quality standards, customer commitments, and operational risks across multi-state job sites.
- Oversee PEMB erection operations, including crew deployment, coordination, and coordination with general contractors and building manufacturers.
- Maintain quality standards in line with the company’s IAS AC478 accreditation for metal building erection.
- Strengthen communication and coordination between estimating, sales, project management, field operations, service, finance, HR, and office teams.
- Review operational and financial performance indicators, identify concerns early, and lead corrective action when needed.
- Improve workflows, approval paths, documentation, and reporting while keeping processes practical and easy to follow.
- Promote a strong safety culture and ensure field and office practices meet OSHA requirements, company policies, customer requirements, and applicable regulations.
- Support workforce planning, leadership development, performance management, and succession planning in partnership with HR and department leaders.
- Build trusted relationships with customers, vendors, subcontractors, and business partners when operational leadership is needed.
- Lead with integrity, humility, urgency, and a team-first mindset consistent with JAC Metal’s faith-driven culture and values.

- Demonstrated ability to lead managers, strengthen accountability, resolve operational issues, and improve cross-department communication.
- Strong business judgment with the ability to understand budgets, labor and resource planning, productivity, job performance, and operational risk.
- Ability to balance strategic planning with hands-on execution in a growing small-to-mid-sized business.
- Clear, confident communication skills and the ability to work effectively with the CEO, employees, customers, general contractors, vendors, and subcontractors.
- Strong organization, follow-through, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office and the ability to use operational systems, reports, and performance data to guide decisions.
