# Director of Information Technology **Commonwealth Commercial Partners, LLC** · Glen Allen, VA 23060 · `On-site` 🕒 **Статус:** *Опубликовано: 9 дней назад* · *Источник: Indeed* --- ### About the Role Commonwealth Commercial Partners is seeking a Director of Information Technology to lead the firm's technology function. Reporting to the Chief Operating Officer, this position owns technology strategy, service delivery, security and compliance, vendor performance, and the IT budget for a hybrid on-premises and cloud environment spanning our corporate offices and the hotel and commercial properties we manage. Commonwealth delivers technology through a lean internal team working alongside outsourced partners, including a managed service provider, a network carrier, and managed security providers. The Director's primary focus is leading that program: setting service expectations, holding partners accountable to them, governing spend and renewals, planning lifecycle and roadmap, and translating technology decisions into terms firm leadership can act on. Success in this role is measured by the outcome, not by who performed the work. The role also requires technical depth. Our partners carry day-to-day ticket volume and contracted managed services; they do not own architecture, security direction, or our cloud environment. Those responsibilities sit with this position. The Director holds privileged access across the environment and is expected to be able to work in it directly when a partner is slow to respond, an incident is live, or a decision requires independent technical judgment. This is a leadership position with a hands-on role, not a purely administrative one. This is a role for a builder rather than a caretaker. The environment is stable and well documented but still maturing, and the person in this seat will have genuine influence over how it evolves: the roadmap, the partner model, and how the department's capabilities and staffing grow over time. The firm is also actively developing internal applications and adopting AI tooling, and this position is the voice on how that is done securely. Commonwealth is a people-first, predominantly in-office culture. Colleagues at every level bring questions directly to IT, and being approachable, responsive, and unflappable with them matters as much as technical and vendor skill. Key Responsibilities: Technology Strategy & Roadmap - Own the firm's multi-year technology roadmap and set priorities in partnership with firm leadership. - Evaluate the operating model on an ongoing basis, including which capabilities are best delivered by partners and which are best held in-house. - Maintain a current, documented view of the environment: infrastructure, applications, vendors, and open risks. - Advise leadership on the secure adoption of emerging technology, including AI tools and internally developed applications. Vendor & Service Program Management - Own the relationships with the firm's technology partners, including the managed service provider, network carrier, and security providers. - Define service expectations and performance measures; review partner performance on a regular cadence and escalate effectively when commitments are missed. - Lead contract negotiation, renewals, and vendor selection, including RFPs and service transitions. - Reconcile vendor invoices against contract terms and resolve billing discrepancies. - Assess where partner scope should expand, narrow, or move, based on performance, risk, and cost. Security, Compliance & Risk - Own the IT-controlled portion of the firm's SOC 1 Type II control set, including evidence preparation and interaction with the audit firm. - Oversee the security program: endpoint and identity protection, monitoring and detection, access governance, and vulnerability management. - Lead incident response, coordinating internal resources and outside partners. - Design and deliver firm-wide security awareness training. - Maintain business continuity and disaster recovery planning across all sites. Infrastructure & Technical Oversight - Set technical direction for the firm's identity, network, endpoint, and cloud environments, whether the work is performed internally or by a partner. - Hold administrative access across core systems and be able to diagnose and resolve issues directly when circumstances require it. - Review and approve partner-proposed architecture and configuration changes rather than accepting them by default. - Oversee hardware lifecycle, asset management, and lease and refresh cycles across the site portfolio. Business Partnership & End-User Experience - Serve as the accessible, responsive face of IT for colleagues at every level of the firm. - Analyze business needs across the firm's lines of business and translate them into practical technology solutions. - Oversee help desk quality and escalation, ensuring issues are resolved promptly whether handled internally or by a partner. - Report on technology performance, risk, and initiatives to firm leadership in clear, non-technical terms. Financial Management - Own the IT budget, including forecasting, monthly budget-to-actual reconciliation, and variance analysis. - Make cost-conscious build-versus-buy decisions and identify opportunities to reduce spend without adding risk. - Manage procurement of hardware, software, and services. Team Leadership & Development - Lead, coach, and develop the internal IT team. - Assess the department's staffing needs and shape how its capabilities grow over time, in partnership with firm leadership. - Establish and maintain documentation, policies, and standard operating procedures. Core Value Alignment and Adherence - Team First - Own It - Professionalism - Relationship-Oriented - Integrity Qualifications: - Bachelor's degree, or equivalent professional experience. - 10+ years of information technology experience, including 5+ years in a leadership, program management, or service management role. - 3+ years managing outsourced technology providers — managed service providers, carriers, or security vendors — including contracts, service levels, escalation, and performance review. - Demonstrated ownership of a compliance control set (SOC 1, SOC 2, ISO 27001, or comparable), including evidence preparation and working directly with auditors. - Working technical proficiency across Microsoft 365, Entra ID, and Azure; Active Directory and Windows Server; enterprise firewalls and multi-site networking; and endpoint and identity security tooling. Able to operate independently in these systems when needed, without being the primary day-to-day engineer. - Experience leading a vendor selection, RFP, or service transition from start to finish. - Ownership of an IT budget, including forecasting, variance analysis, and invoice reconciliation. - Sound judgment on emerging technology, including the secure adoption of AI tools and internally developed applications. - Exceptional interpersonal skills: approachable and responsive to colleagues at every level, while able to hold outside partners firmly to their commitments. - Strong written and verbal communication, including reporting to executive leadership. - Experience supporting a multi-site environment strongly preferred; commercial real estate or professional services experience a plus. - This position is based on-site at our Glen Allen, VA office and will require occasional travel to other Commonwealth locations.
