Director of Finance / Controller

Reports to: Chief Financial Officer (CFO)

Position Summary

We are seeking a hands-on Director of Finance / Controller to oversee accounting and financial operations for a CPG branded and private label business. Reporting to the CFO, this role manages financial reporting, budgeting, forecasting, treasury, audit and tax support, regulatory reporting, and accounting staff supervision. The ideal candidate brings strong technical accounting expertise and practical CPG brand and distribution industry experience. This position is 100% on-site at our corporate headquarters.

Key Responsibilities

Accounting & Financial Reporting

• Oversee general ledger, accounts payable, accounts receivable, inventory accounting, fixed assets, and daily accounting activities.
• Manage monthly, quarterly, and annual close processes; prepare accurate GAAP financial statements and management reporting.
• Review reconciliations, accruals, reserves, and financial results; maintain accounting policies and internal controls.
• Oversee inventory valuation, cost of goods sold, customer deductions, royalties, commissions, and trade-related expenses.
• Supervise accounting staff, assignments, and reporting deadlines.

Budgeting, Forecasting & Analysis

• Coordinate annual budgets and periodic forecasts; prepare budget-to-actual comparisons and variance analysis.
• Develop financial projections and evaluate profitability, expenses, and working capital to support CFO decisions.

Treasury & Cash Management

• Oversee daily cash management, banking transactions, cash balances, liquidity, and payment controls.
• Maintain cash flow forecasts, monitor customer collections, and credit exposure.
• Support the CFO with banking relationships, credit facilities, and treasury services.

Audit, Tax & Regulatory Compliance

• Coordinate financial statement audits and prepare schedules and supporting documentation.
• Work with tax advisors on federal, state, and local filings, including sales and use tax compliance.
• Coordinate government census surveys, statistical reports, and other required regulatory filings.

Financial Systems & Process Improvement

• Oversee ERP accounting and reporting processes, financial data integrity, and system enhancements.
• Improve reporting efficiency, automation, procedures, and internal controls.

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field; 10–15 years of progressive accounting and finance experience, including staff supervision.
• Consumer Packaged Goods (CPG) industry experience required, with strong knowledge of wholesale/distribution, inventory, and cost of goods sold.
• Experience in financial reporting, budgeting, forecasting, treasury management, GAAP, and internal controls.
• Experience supporting audits, tax compliance, and regulatory reporting.
• Advanced Excel skills, proficiency with ERP accounting systems, and strong analytical and communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications

• Certified Public Accountant (CPA) designation.
• Experience with SAP Business One.
• Knowledge of CPG deductions and processing.

Pay: $175,000.00 - $215,000.00 per year
