This hands-on leadership role combines strategic operational setup—including facility layout, equipment procurement, and regulatory compliance—with end-to-end technical oversight of prepress, press operations, and quality control. You will establish production SOPs from scratch and ensure line readiness for our expanding manufacturing capabilities. Key Responsibilities Facility & Operational Setup Design and execute the layout, workflow, and line setup for the new printing facility in Eastvale (and upcoming Ontario relocation). Research, evaluate, and recommend digital printing and finishing machinery procurement to align with production targets. Ensure full regulatory compliance with California laws, including OSHA, SCAQMD (environmental/air quality emission permits), and local city fire/safety codes. Hands-on Production & Quality Control Set up, operate, and regularly calibrate digital wide-format printing and labeling equipment based on production schedules and following detailed job ticket instructions. Prepare, review, and optimize art files using Adobe Creative Suite (Illustrator, Photoshop). Ensure correct resolution, color space (CMYK/Pantone), and bleed settings before production. Adjust press settings (pressure, speed, and registration) to ensure labels are applied accurately, without bubbles or wrinkles, across various substrates (plastic, paper, films). Perform color matching (Pantone/PMS) and conduct continuous visual inspections for defects like color shifts, misalignment, or surface imperfections. Take ownership of print quality; investigate defects, reruns, spoilage, and recurring production issues to determine root causes and implement corrective actions. Monitor key performance metrics including waste, spoilage, setup time, downtime, press speeds, and equipment utilization to drive continuous operational improvement. Perform routine preventative maintenance (PM) (cleaning, lubrication, minor repairs) and execute simple mechanical repairs to minimize downtime. Input accurate production numbers and record all required production data into the ERP/shop floor data collection system to ensure precise inventory management; monitor and strive to maintain scrap rates within the 5% target. Manage post-print tasks including laminating, cutting, and weeding; ensure complete line clearance procedures between jobs to prevent cross-contamination or labeling errors. Maintain a clean, organized workspace in strict adherence to GMP (Good Manufacturing Practices) and industrial safety standards. Additional duties as required. Requirements Education and Experience Bachelor/Associate degree preferred. 4 + years experience in a commercial printing, labeling, manufacturing environment or flexible packaging environment. Job Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Familiarity or working knowledge of facility/line setup, equipment selection, SOP drafting, and CA compliance (SCAQMD, OSHA, City Permit). Familiarity with pressure-sensitive label materials, substrates, coatings, laminates, adhesives, and converting processes (such as die cutting, varnishing, slitting, and rewinding). Proficiency in Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop; basic knowledge of digital RIP (Raster Image Processor) software. Strong mechanical aptitude; ability to use basic hand tools and read a ruler for precise machine adjustments. Deep understanding of color theory, print registration, and substrate handling. Familiarity with FDA or cosmetic labeling regulations is a strong plus. Proactive communicator; bilingual in English and Chinese is preferred. Physical Requirements & Work Environment Able to lift up to 50 lbs and stand for extended periods in a fast-paced environment. Accepts regular skin and clothing exposure to inks and production materials inherent to the printing process. Candidates must be able to commute to both locations.
