At Jacobs, we're challenging today to reinvent tomorrow by solving the world's most critical problems for thriving cities, resilient environments, mission-critical outcomes, operational advancement, scientific discovery and cutting-edge manufacturing, turning abstract ideas into realities that transform the world for good.
Your impact
The Digital Construction Lead will provide specialist support to Construction Management teams delivering complex pharmaceutical and life-science projects throughout Europe. This role will help project teams use models, site data and digital workflows to improve construction delivery. The successful candidate will be construction-facing and build strong connections with our site teams, working directly with Construction Managers, planners, supervisors, engineers, trade contractors, survey teams, quality and commissioning personnel. The role will translate digital ways of working to support our site teams delivering right first time. The position is intended to be predominantly site-based on European projects. Regular and sustained engagement with site teams is fundamental to the role, and the position is not intended to operate primarily from a head-office environment.
This role will bridge the gap between BIM and construction delivery. It will build upon established BIM, spatial coordination and information-management practices, applying them to construction sequencing, work-package planning, field verification, survey and reality-capture activities, training and project reporting. The role will also Promote integrated digital workflows across the EPCMCQV lifecycle, connecting Design, Procurement, Construction, Quality, Commissioning and Turnover and reducing functional and information silos. The role will support consistent digital construction delivery across the European project portfolio while adapting the approach to each project’s risks, scope and delivery strategy.
Responsibilities
- Develop and implement the project digital construction strategy, aligned with the construction execution plan, programme, work-package strategy and BIM Execution Plan.
- Work with planners and Construction Management to develop model-based construction sequencing and logistics plans covering the master programme, phase plans, access, temporary works and installation fronts.
- Lead and support multidisciplinary trade coordination workshops using design models, trade models, shop drawings and specifications to identify clashes, access constraints, incomplete information and constructability risks.
- Coordinate the identification, recording, assignment and close-out of construction, coordination and installation issues, including inaccuracies, out-of-tolerance work and information gaps, using Revizto, Autodesk Forma, Navisworks or equivalent platforms.
- Develop and support practical field-verification and survey workflows using models, digital checklists, photographs, laser scanning, point clouds, total-station data or augmented-reality tools, working with survey and Quality teams as appropriate.
- Support the creation of reliable as-built installation-status and handover information in coordination with Construction, Quality, Engineering, CQV and Information Management teams.
- Develop and deliver role-based training, site inductions, demonstrations and practical guidance for project teams and trade partners in the use of digital tools and workflows to support construction.
- Drive the integration of schedule, model and construction-progress data to support lookahead and Last Planner activities, progress measurement, forecasting and management reporting, including the continued development and utilisation of construction intelligence platforms.
- Capture lessons learned and contribute to repeatable standards, templates, workflows and continuous improvement across projects and offices.
- Lead the integration and digitalisation of construction processes including EHS, Scheduling and Last Planner, Change & Cost Control, Field Coordination, construction logistics, site organisation and administration, and construction document management.
- Promote integrated digital workflows across the EPCMCQV lifecycle, ensuring information is effectively transferred between Design, Procurement, Construction, Quality, Commissioning and Turnover activities.
- Support Digital Delivery in the development of new applications and tools to support construction.
- Work with BIM and Information Management teams to establish and maintain project requirements for model status, federation, trade information, coordination, 4D outputs, field evidence, handover data, CDE processes and relevant ISO 19650 principles.
- Assess emerging AI technologies and integrate best-fit solutions across construction projects where clear business and operational benefits can be realised.
- Review the readiness of models and information before construction activities begin and identify matters requiring action by design, construction or trade teams.
- Identify opportunities to simplify and connect existing project systems and workflows, reducing duplicate data entry and improving the flow of information between disciplines and project phases.
- Support Construction Management bids and proposals, liaising with the Digital Delivery Manager on technology selection and review.
Here's what you'll need
- Willing and able to be predominantly based on European project sites for extended periods, with regular office attendance as required.
- Ten or more years’ experience in construction delivery, BIM/VDC, digital construction, engineering coordination or a closely related field, including a minimum of five years’ practical site-based construction experience and a strong understanding of how construction teams, supervisors and trade contractors operate in the field.
- Degree, higher technical qualification or equivalent practical experience in construction, engineering, architecture, surveying, BIM/VDC, construction technology or a related discipline.
- Experience working on complex pharmaceutical, life-science, industrial, advanced-manufacturing, data-centre or other highly serviced projects.
- Strong understanding of multidisciplinary design and construction processes, including design and trade coordination, construction planning and controls, work packages, installation interfaces and handover requirements.
- Strong working knowledge of Navisworks and digital collaboration platforms such as Revizto, Autodesk Forma or EIDA, with the ability to navigate and interrogate discipline and trade models including Revit, Plant 3D, AutoCAD and IFC formats.
- Strong interpersonal, communication and presentation skills, with the ability to explain technical information clearly to construction teams and trade partners.
- Ability to work across organisational and functional boundaries and drive adoption of common digital processes across Design, Construction, Project Controls, EHS, Quality, CQV and Turnover.
- Self-motivated, organised and results-focused, with the ability to work across multiple project teams and with minimal supervision.
