Data Architect – AWS Data Platform

Required Skills *

• Strong experience designing enterprise-scale data platforms and data solutions.
• Strong knowledge of modern AWS data architecture, including:
• Amazon S3
• AWS Glue
• AWS Lake Formation
• Amazon Athena
• Amazon Redshift
• Amazon RDS / Aurora
• Strong understanding of data lake, lakehouse and data warehouse architectures.
• Strong knowledge of:
• Data modelling
• ETL / ELT architecture
• Data ingestion patterns
• Data integration
• Metadata and lineage
• Data quality
• Master and reference data concepts
• Experience designing Bronze, Silver and Gold data-layer architectures or similar medallion patterns.
• Strong understanding of batch, streaming and event-driven data architectures.
• Experience designing solutions integrating:
• Relational databases
• APIs
• Files / object storage
• Enterprise applications
• Streaming/event sources
• Strong understanding of cloud security principles including:
• IAM
• Encryption
• Data access controls
• Cross-account integration
• Network/security considerations
• Understanding of open table formats such as Apache Iceberg.
• Good knowledge of engineering technologies including Python, PySpark and SQL, sufficient to provide technical direction and design assurance.
• Experience reviewing engineering designs and providing architectural guidance through implementation.
• Strong stakeholder-management skills, with the ability to communicate complex architecture decisions to both technical and non-technical audiences.

Required Experience / Knowledge Areas *

• Strong experience in Data Architecture, Enterprise Data Platforms and Cloud Data Solutions.
• Demonstrable experience designing data solutions in complex enterprise environments.
• Strong experience with AWS-based Data Platforms.
• Experience within Banking or Financial Services strongly preferred.
• Good understanding of data governance, information security and regulatory requirements within a controlled enterprise environment.
• Experience taking solutions from initial business requirements through architecture, engineering, implementation and production.
• Experience working with multidisciplinary teams including Data Engineers, Platform Engineers, Security, Infrastructure, Enterprise Architects and business stakeholders.
