Data Analyst
POSITION SUMMARY: The Data Analyst leads data collection, management, analysis, and interpretation. Reporting to the Health Education Manager, the Data Analyst works closely with Community Health workers, coalition members, community partners, evaluators, and organizational leadership to identify trends, behavioral health disparities, environmental conditions, social determinants of health, and related risk and protective factors. The position transforms quantitative and qualitative information into clear, actionable findings that guide prevention planning, program improvement, community education, funding decisions, and outcome evaluation. PRINCIPAL RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES: · Lead the implementation of data collection, management, analysis, visualization, and reporting processes for Healthways Alliance, coalitions, and grant-funded activities. · Conduct comprehensive assessments of behavioral health disparities related to substance use and associated risk and protective factors, including analysis of public health trends, environmental conditions, community characteristics, and social determinants of health across demographic groups. · Design and conduct research and evaluation studies using appropriate quantitative, qualitative, and mixed-method approaches. · Develop and maintain an Epidemiological Profile for target communities that describes population characteristics, substance use and health trends, local conditions, root causes, contributing factors, disparities, community assets, and priority populations. · Collect data through surveys, interviews, focus groups, listening sessions, literature reviews, environmental scans, archival research, administrative records, and relevant local, state, and national datasets. · Develop or refine data collection instruments, survey tools, interview guides, codebooks, data dictionaries, standard operating procedures, and documentation that promote consistency and reproducibility. · Clean, validate, organize, merge, and maintain datasets; conduct routine quality assurance checks and resolve or clearly document missing, inconsistent, duplicate, or anomalous data. · Analyze descriptive statistics, trends, outcomes, disparities, geographic or demographic patterns, and other measures appropriate to coalition priorities and grant requirements. Apply sound methods and clearly document assumptions and limitations. · Create dashboards, scorecards, charts, maps, tables, presentations, and written summaries that make complex findings understandable and useful to coalition members, policymakers, practitioners, funders, organizational leadership, and the public. · Work with the Project Director and Director of Programs and Grants to establish performance indicators, monitor progress toward project objectives and grant deliverables, compile supporting documentation, and prepare accurate data for reports, proposals, presentations, and funding requests. · Support program planning, implementation, evaluation, continuous quality improvement, and development of mitigation strategies by translating findings into practical recommendations and monitoring the results of selected strategies. · Maintain a data calendar and reporting schedule; communicate upcoming requirements, identify data gaps or risks early, and provide timely status updates to the Project Director. · Coordinate appropriate data requests and information-sharing processes with coalition members and community partners; clarify definitions, collection expectations, timelines, and permitted uses of data. · Maintain confidentiality, privacy, security, and ethical handling of participant and organizational information. Follow applicable policies, agreements, consent requirements, and data retention practices. · Participate in coalition meetings, task force committees, workgroups, community engagement activities, and partner meetings; present findings, facilitate data discussions, document decisions, and support data-informed priority setting. · Build authentic, respectful relationships with diverse community members and stakeholders, including youth, families, service providers, schools, healthcare organizations, public agencies, and policymakers. · Monitor emerging research, evidence-based prevention practices, public health guidance, and relevant data sources; continually develop subject-matter expertise and serve as a reliable community resource on substance use prevention data. · Maintain organized electronic files, source documentation, analysis records, methodology notes, and version control sufficient to support audit readiness and reproducibility. · Perform other duties as assigned that are consistent with the responsibilities, mission, and values of Healthways Alliance and the Poor Handmaids of Jesus Christ. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: · Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution in Public Health, Epidemiology, Biostatistics, Data Science, Statistics, Social Science, Behavioral Health, Health Informatics, Evaluation, or a closely related field. · At least two years of relevant experience in research, program evaluation, public health surveillance, data analysis, or a related analytical role. Relevant graduate-level training may substitute for a portion of the experience requirement. · Demonstrated experience collecting, cleaning, analyzing, interpreting, and presenting quantitative and qualitative data. · Experience working with public health, behavioral health, substance use prevention, health equity, or community-based initiatives. · Ability and willingness to attend occasional evening or weekend coalition and community activities and travel locally as required. · Valid driver's license, reliable transportation, automobile insurance, and a driving record acceptable for organizational travel requirements. REQUIRED SKILLS: · Strong analytical and critical-thinking skills, including the ability to identify patterns, assess data quality, select appropriate methods, recognize limitations, and translate findings into actionable recommendations. · Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook, and Teams, including advanced Excel functions, data organization, pivot tables, formulas, charts, and quality checks. · Working knowledge of at least one statistical, business intelligence, database, geographic information system, or data visualization tool, such as SPSS, SAS, R, Python, SQL, Power BI, Tableau, or ArcGIS. · Strong verbal and written communication skills and the ability to explain technical information clearly to both technical and nontechnical audiences. · Experience organizing and facilitating data discussions, focus groups, community conversations, or similar group processes. · Ability to manage multiple priorities, meet deadlines, maintain accurate documentation, and work independently while collaborating effectively with a multidisciplinary team. · Knowledge of public health principles, substance use disorder, prevention science, health equity, social determinants of health, and community-based prevention approaches. · Ability to build and sustain authentic working relationships with culturally, economically, and professionally diverse community members and stakeholders. · Sound judgment, discretion, cultural humility, attention to detail, and the ability to protect confidential and sensitive information. · Commitment to continuous learning and professional growth in data analytics, program evaluation, public health, and substance use prevention. PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: · Master's degree or graduate coursework in Public Health, Epidemiology, Biostatistics, Data Science, Evaluation, Behavioral Health, or a related field. · Experience developing epidemiological profiles, community health needs assessments, grant performance reports, public dashboards, or evaluation plans. · Knowledge of local, state, and federal behavioral health or substance use datasets and reporting requirements.
