Responsibilities Assist in monitoring and analyzing security events using Security Information and Event Management (SIEM) tools to identify potential threats and vulnerabilities. Support the implementation and management of cybersecurity tools such as Endpoint Detection and Response (EDR), firewalls, VPNs, and intrusion detection systems (IDS). Contribute to network security by helping configure and maintain firewalls like Cisco ASA, Cisco ISE, and network protocols including IPsec, TCP/IP, and DNS. Participate in vulnerability assessments and security risk investigations to identify weaknesses within IT infrastructure, LAN/WAN networks, and cloud environments. Aid in incident response activities by investigating security breaches, assisting with incident recovery plans, and documenting findings following NIST standards. Collaborate with team members on system security hardening efforts across operating systems such as Windows, Linux distributions like Debian or CentOS, and virtualization platforms like VMware or vSphere. Support compliance initiatives related to ISO 27001, ISO 27002, PCI standards, FISMA, FedRAMP, and other information security frameworks to ensure organizational adherence. Requirements Strong interest in learning on-the-job, especially for any required skills you do not already have. This apprenticeship position does not require existing skills in cybersecurity. You will be required to pass an apprenticeship assessment before you are matched with an employer. A strong interest in computer networking concepts including LAN/WAN architecture, routing protocols like OSPF or BGP, and network support fundamentals. Basic understanding of cybersecurity principles such as encryption, access management (RBAC), threat detection & response, vulnerability management, and system hardening. Familiarity with operating systems including Windows, Linux (Ubuntu or openSUSE), and mobile platforms like Android or iOS is preferred. Knowledge of cybersecurity tools such as Nmap for network scanning, Burp Suite for web application testing, SolarWinds for network monitoring, and Fiddler for traffic analysis is advantageous. Ability to learn new technologies rapidly while demonstrating a proactive approach to problem-solving within a team environment. Excellent communication skills with a keen eye for detail necessary for log analysis, report writing, and security assessment documentation. Previous experience, coursework, or bootcamps related to computers or IT security is a plus but not mandatory; enthusiasm for continuous learning is essential.
