Custom Furniture Technical Engineer

Job Description

We are seeking an experienced and detail-oriented Custom Furniture Technical Engineer to handle technical design, shop drawings, bill of materials (BOM), cost estimation, and production coordination. The candidate will work closely with design, production, purchasing, and installation teams to ensure accurate drawings, efficient material usage, and smooth project execution.

Key Responsibilities

• Prepare detailed furniture designs and shop drawings based on design concepts, site measurements, and project requirements.
• Develop construction details, hardware specifications, lighting details, and installation drawings.
• Prepare accurate Bills of Materials (BOM), including panels, hardware, accessories, and other required materials.
• Coordinate with purchasing and storekeeping teams to ensure material availability and minimize last-minute purchases.
• Calculate material quantities, production costs, and support quotation preparation.
• Monitor material usage, identify cost variations, and minimize wastage.
• Provide technical guidance to production and installation teams.
• Resolve technical queries related to drawings, manufacturing, assembly, and on-site installation.
• Conduct site measurements and re-measurements to ensure dimensional accuracy.
• Communicate drawing revisions and technical changes promptly to the relevant departments.
• Maintain updated shop drawings, technical documentation, and project files.
• Coordinate with internal teams to ensure work meets quality standards and project deadlines.

Requirements

• Minimum 3 years of experience in custom furniture, joinery, or furniture technical design.
• Proficiency in AutoCAD is essential.
• Knowledge of SketchUp, 3D design software, and panel furniture cutting-list software is an advantage.
• Strong understanding of panel processing, hardware fittings, edge-banding, spray finishing, and furniture installation processes.
• Experience in BOM preparation, material estimation, and cost calculation.
• Ability to read and prepare detailed technical and shop drawings.
• Strong communication and coordination skills with design, production, purchasing, and installation teams.
• Detail-oriented, organized, and cost-conscious, with strong problem-solving abilities.
• Good command of English or Chinese; knowledge of both is an advantage.
• Willing to work overtime and attend project sites when required.
• UAE project experience is preferred.
