About the Role We are looking for an experienced and commercially minded Credit Control & Finance Manager to join our internal Finance Team. Credit control will form the core focus of the role, taking ownership of the firm's debtor ledger and helping to ensure that invoices are collected promptly, professionally and in line with agreed payment terms. As a professional services business, maintaining positive client relationships is extremely important to us. We are therefore looking for someone who can combine a proactive and confident approach to credit control with excellent communication skills and sound commercial judgement. Alongside credit control, there will be an opportunity to become involved in the wider finance function, including financial and management reporting, depending upon the successful candidate's previous experience and skill set. You will work as part of a Finance Team alongside three other colleagues, reporting to the firm's Financial Controller and working closely with the Directors and wider management team. Key Responsibilities Credit Control & Debtor Management The primary responsibility of the role will be to take ownership of the firm's credit control function, including: Managing and maintaining the firm's debtor ledger, ensuring outstanding balances are actively monitored and pursued. Proactively contacting clients by telephone and email regarding outstanding invoices and payment arrangements. Building effective relationships with clients while maintaining a professional, firm and commercially appropriate approach to debt collection. Monitoring debtor days, aged debt and collection performance, identifying areas of concern and taking appropriate action. Agreeing and monitoring payment plans where appropriate. Escalating overdue or higher-risk debts to the Financial Controller, Client Managers and Directors as required. Working closely with client-facing teams to resolve invoice queries and other matters that may be delaying payment. Ensuring credit control records, notes and client communications are accurate and up to date. Supporting the continued development and improvement of the firm's credit control processes. Producing regular debtor and credit control reports for the Financial Controller and Directors. Identifying trends and potential issues within the debtor ledger and recommending appropriate action. Supporting the management of the firm's cash collection and cashflow position. Wider Finance Responsibilities Depending on experience, the successful candidate will also have the opportunity to support the wider Finance Team. This may include: Assisting with monthly management accounts and internal financial reporting. Supporting month-end processes, reconciliations and reporting. Assisting with cashflow reporting and forecasting. Producing financial information, analysis and reports for the Financial Controller and Directors. Monitoring financial performance against budgets and forecasts. Assisting with the development of internal finance processes, systems and controls. Supporting other members of the Finance Team during busy periods and providing cover where appropriate. Contributing to projects aimed at improving the efficiency and effectiveness of the firm's finance function. The scope of these responsibilities can be tailored according to the successful candidate's experience, with the opportunity for the role to develop over time. Systems Our finance and billing systems include: Xero Rechargely Adfin Previous experience of these systems would be advantageous, particularly Xero, although training can be provided. We are particularly interested in candidates who are confident using technology and who can identify opportunities to improve processes through better use of systems and automation. Skills & Experience Essential Strong previous experience within credit control, accounts receivable or a similar finance role. Experience of taking responsibility for and actively managing a debtor ledger. A confident and professional telephone manner, with the ability to have sometimes challenging conversations regarding outstanding debts. Excellent communication and relationship-building skills. Strong organisational skills and the ability to manage competing priorities. A proactive approach, with the confidence to take ownership of issues and see them through to resolution. Good attention to detail and a high level of accuracy. Strong Excel and general IT skills. Commercial awareness and sound judgement when dealing with clients and colleagues. Desirable AAT Level 4 qualified, or qualified by experience. Previous experience within a professional services or other service-based business . Broader finance experience beyond credit control. Experience of preparing or assisting with management accounts and financial reporting. Experience of cashflow reporting or forecasting. Experience using Xero. Experience using Rechargely and/or Adfin. The Person We are looking for someone who is: Proactive – comfortable taking ownership of the credit control function rather than simply responding to overdue accounts. Commercially minded – able to balance the importance of collecting outstanding debts with maintaining strong, long-term client relationships. Confident – comfortable speaking directly with clients, senior colleagues and Directors. Organised – able to manage a busy debtor ledger and follow matters through consistently. Analytical – able to interpret financial information and identify trends, risks and areas requiring attention. Collaborative – happy to work as part of a small Finance Team and support the wider needs of the business. Improvement focused – interested in finding better and more efficient ways of working.
