Corporate Sales Development Representative

HERD GROUPAddlestone

Overview

Herd Group is looking for a commercially minded Corporate Sales Development Representative to support the continued growth of our larger fleet and corporate customer base.

This is not a traditional SDR role focused purely on call volumes and short-term appointments. The role will combine consistent outbound activity with strategic account development, research and long-term relationship building.

You will identify and develop relationships with businesses operating larger vehicle fleets across the UK, working closely with our National Sales Managers across Herd Business (Rental) and Herd Connect (Fleet Management). Your primary objective will be to open doors, develop opportunities and fill the National Sales Managers' diaries with well-qualified meetings they can progress and close.

Many target accounts will not have a large number of vehicles immediately available for long-term rental. Success will therefore come from understanding the customer's wider fleet strategy and finding the right initial route into the account. This could be through Herd Connect, support with vehicle purchasing, temporary or emergency cover, infill rental vehicles, fleet growth or another immediate fleet requirement. The longer-term aim is to build trust, demonstrate Herd's value and develop wider rental and fleet management opportunities.

What you'll be doing

  • Building and managing a targeted pipeline of larger corporate fleet prospects across the UK
  • Working with the National Sales Managers to identify priority sectors, target organisations and fleet profiles.
  • Researching target businesses to understand fleet size, structure, funding approach, operational challenges and key decision-makers
  • Carrying out consistent outbound prospecting by telephone, email, LinkedIn and other appropriate channels.
  • Mapping larger organisations and develop relationships with multiple stakeholders, including fleet, procurement, operations and finance contacts where relevant.
  • Nurturing strategic prospects over weeks or months where there is no immediate buying opportunity, maintaining relevant and well-timed contact until the opportunity develops
  • Identifying the best initial route into an account, including Herd Connect fleet management, rental, emergency or temporary cover, vehicle purchasing support and other fleet requirements
  • Helping to position flexible long-term rental as part of a customer's wider fleet strategy, particularly where ownership, leasing or contract hire currently dominates
  • Identifying opportunities to use smaller or immediate requirements as an entry point into larger fleet relationships.
  • Booking well-qualified face-to-face or Teams meetings for the relevant National Sales Manager across Herd Business (Rental) or Herd Connect (Fleet Management).
  • Providing meaningful account intelligence before meetings so the National Sales Manager understands the fleet, stakeholders, current position, challenges and potential opportunity.
  • Continuing to supporting account penetration after the first meeting by identifying additional stakeholders, sites, divisions or opportunities within larger organisations.
  • Re-engaging dormant prospects and previous opportunities where timing may now have changed.
  • Maintaining accurate CRM records, next actions, follow-up dates and account intelligence so longer-term opportunities are consistently progressed.
  • Attending relevant trade shows, industry events and networking opportunities, follow up leads generated from them and convert those conversations into qualified sales opportunities.
  • Working with prospect data and targeted account lists provided by Herd, while also using your own research and initiative to identify new opportunities.
  • Working collaboratively with Account Management where existing customer relationships present opportunities for wider fleet growth.

What we're looking for

We are looking for somebody who genuinely enjoys opening doors and developing relationships. You will need the resilience and work ethic required for outbound prospecting, but also the patience and commercial awareness to recognise that a high-value corporate opportunity may take several months to mature.

  • Previous SDR, BDR, corporate telesales or business development experience.
  • Experience prospecting into medium and large organisations, ideally with multiple decision-makers
  • Confidence speaking with senior fleet, procurement, operations and business decision-makers
  • Strong telephone, written communication, questioning and listening skills.
  • The ability to research an organisation, understand its structure and identify the right stakeholders
  • Persistence and resilience without being overly aggressive or transactional
  • Strong organisation and disciplined CRM management, particularly around long-term follow-up
  • Commercial curiosity and an interest in understanding how a customer's fleet and wider business operate
  • The ability to spot an opportunity beyond the product or service originally discussed.
  • Comfort working closely with National Sales Managers and handing over properly qualified opportunities
  • Experience within fleet, vehicle rental, leasing, automotive, logistics or another complex B2B service environment would be advantageous, but is not essential

What success looks like

Success in this role will not be judged simply by the number of calls made. Outbound activity is important, but the quality of the pipeline, relationships and meetings created matters just as much.

· Building a healthy and growing pipeline of strategically relevant corporate fleet accounts.

· Consistently creating well-qualified meetings for the National Sales Managers.

  • Developing relationships within larger organisations rather than relying on a single contact.
  • Maintaining momentum on longer-term opportunities through disciplined, relevant follow-up.
  • Creating entry points into larger fleets through Herd Connect, rental or other fleet requirements.
  • Helping turn initial conversations and smaller requirements into meaningful long-term customer relationships.
  • Contributing to growth across both Herd Business (Rental) and Herd Connect (Fleet Management).

The Opportunity

This role offers more than a traditional appointment-setting position. You will work closely with National Sales Managers on significant corporate opportunities and gain exposure to the full sales journey - from identifying and mapping a target account, through first engagement and meeting generation, to the development of larger rental and fleet management relationships.

For somebody who is successful and wants to progress, the role provides a strong foundation for future development into Business Development or Corporate Sales.
