Job Overview The Sustainable Food Institute of America was founded in 2022 and focuses on/is committed to on guiding schools toward sustainable foodservice operations that serve fresh, local, and scratch-cooked food, support the health and wellbeing of individuals, and support local farmers. Role Focus: The role of the Controller is an integral part of the Sustainable Food Institute of America, responsible for all bookkeeping and accounting functions, including the preparation of financial reports, such as income statements, balance sheets, and analyses of historical and future income and expenses, in addition to other special reports that may be needed. The Controller also handles the annual review or audit and budgeting. Typical Education and Experience: The ideal individual will possess a master’s or bachelor’s degree in accounting with a minimum of 5-7 years’ experience in non-profit accounting , including managerial experience. The candidate must have experience in a similar role. QuickBooks experience is a plus. A working knowledge of nonprofit accounting is essential. OVERVIEW OF RESPONSIBILITIES: GENERAL ACCOUNTING AND FINANCIAL REPORTING Responsible for all the accounting functions, ensuring accurate and timely financial information; Preparing monthly financial statements, including program analytics; Account reconciliations monthly; Payroll 2x/month for 5-10 employees; Accounts Receivable Accounts Payable Updating Budget vs Actual reporting monthly Communicating accounting policies to others within the organization to ensure compliance with accounting policies. Grasps complexities and perceives relationships among different problems or issues. Pay: $75.00 - $125.00 per hour Expected hours: 8.0 – 10.0 per week Work Location: Hybrid remote in Chicago, IL 60622
