Our work sits at the intersection of building science, civil and construction investigation, indoor environmental assessment and property remediation. We undertake technical investigations involving building materials, moisture, water damage, mould, soil and environmental conditions, contamination and property damage. Due to continued development of our technical services, we are seeking a qualified Civil Engineering Technician to join our Sydney-based team. The Role The Civil Engineering Technician will undertake field investigations, testing, technical data collection and reporting in support of building, civil, environmental and remediation projects. The position combines civil engineering technician functions with practical building and environmental investigation work and will involve regular attendance at residential, commercial and institutional properties. Key responsibilities will include: undertaking site inspections and assisting with technical investigations of buildings, structures and affected materials; collecting, recording and analysing field data relevant to building condition, construction materials, moisture intrusion, water damage and environmental conditions; undertaking and assisting with field testing, measurements and sampling of building materials, soil and other materials where required; using moisture meters, thermal imaging equipment and other field instrumentation to identify moisture migration and potentially affected building materials; assisting with investigation of building defects, water ingress, moisture-related deterioration and material damage; undertaking mould and moisture assessments as part of broader building and environmental investigations; collecting environmental and material samples and coordinating laboratory testing and analysis; interpreting field observations, measurements, laboratory results and other technical data; preparing site sketches, photographs, measurements, technical schedules, tables and other documentation of site conditions; inspecting building and remediation works and documenting whether completed works are consistent with relevant scopes, specifications and technical requirements; assisting with the development of remediation, rectification and repair recommendations based on investigation findings; undertaking post-remediation and completion inspections, including verification of moisture conditions, cleanliness and affected-material removal; assisting Civil Engineering Professionals, Engineering Technologists and other technical professionals with investigations, testing, data collection and technical documentation; preparing clear technical reports detailing inspection findings, test results, observations and recommendations; liaising with engineers, builders, restoration contractors, laboratories, insurers, property managers and other project stakeholders; and travelling to project sites throughout NSW and, when required, interstate or to catastrophe-affected areas. About You The successful applicant will ideally have: a Diploma, Advanced Diploma, Bachelor's degree or higher qualification in Civil Engineering or a closely related engineering discipline; knowledge of civil engineering principles, construction methods and building materials; an understanding of soil, concrete, timber and other construction materials; experience with field inspection, testing, measurement, sampling or technical data collection; strong analytical and technical report-writing skills; an interest in building pathology, moisture investigation, environmental assessment and remediation; confidence working independently on project sites; strong communication and stakeholder-management skills; good computer and technical documentation skills; a current Australian driver's licence; and the ability to undertake travel and field-based work. Experience in building inspections, construction-material testing, geotechnical or soil investigation, water-damage assessment, moisture investigation, mould assessment, environmental consulting or property remediation will be highly regarded. What We Offer This is a diverse technical position providing exposure to civil and building investigations, construction materials, environmental assessment, property damage and remediation projects. The successful applicant will receive ongoing technical training and will work alongside experienced consultants and other construction and engineering professionals.
