Chief Operating Officer — Lockhart’s Customs

Grooming, Fragrance & Personal Care ManufacturingLongmont, Colorado · Full-time · On-site$100,000 salary + benefits + profit share

About us

Lockhart’s makes premium men’s grooming, hair care, fragrance, and personal care products in our own Longmont facility. We run two businesses under one roof: Lockhart’s Authentic , our portfolio of owned brands including pomades, shave soaps, and our cult Lab Leaks fragrance line, sold direct-to-consumer, on Amazon, and through wholesale and distribution, and Lockhart’s Customs , which does contract manufacturing for outside brands.

We make 50+ SKUs, including pomades, shampoos, conditioners, powders, fragrances, soaps, body washes, sea salt sprays, and tonics, and we’re expanding into new categories. Demand is growing faster than our systems. We have strong products, deep technical expertise, and a capable team. What we need is the operating trust to turn this into a scalable, profitable enterprise under a CEO who is eager to grow.

The role

Reporting to our CEO, you’ll oversee day-to-day business operations across our owned brands and contract manufacturing customers. You’ll work closely with our manufacturing leader, who brings deep formulation and production knowledge, to make the systems and processes needed to keep up with our substantial growth.

This is a hands-on ‘turnaround and build’ role. You’ll be on the floor daily solving problems with the team while building the planning, cost analysis, and reporting systems that let the business scale profitably. You’ll inherit a full warehouse, new equipment, a skilled team and a veteran manufacturing leader. Your job is to give them a clear plan and build the systems to execute on it.

What you’ll own

P&L and financial discipline

  • Own the operations P&L: Customs revenue and margin, product costs, labor, materials, and overhead
  • Oversee that accurate costs and bills of materials for every SKU are built, and report variances monthly
  • Work with leadership on budgeting, inventory valuation, and a 13-week cash outlook for purchasing and payroll
  • Assess our production team against overhead and confidently optimize production capacity

Get purchasing, inventory, and orders organized

  • Turn brand forecasts from D2C, Wholesale, Distribution, Amazon, and Customs orders into a weekly production schedule that is visible to leadership
  • Manage inventory health: plan adequate ingredient and material purchasing to keep sufficient inventory stock on shelves at all times.
  • Train our purchasing and supply chain coordinator to set reorder points and build consistent systems to track accurate stock of product and material (implementing technical tools to automate many of these systems is a plus).

Production and delivery

  • Own on-time, in-full delivery for brand replenishment, Amazon, wholesale, and Customs clients
  • Monitor equipment capacity and identify the next bottleneck before it costs us.
  • Develop a roadmap to scale our manufacturing output with needed equipment and personnel.
  • Establish daily floor meetings, weekly operations planning, and monthly operating reviews

Take care of customers and help grow accounts

  • Make sure inquiries, samples, quotes, and orders receive timely follow-through.
  • Provide accurate delivery commitments, pricing, and feedback to existing clients.
  • Build relationships with manufacturing customers and help win new business.
  • Expand existing accounts into additional products and recurring orders.
  • Keep the new-customer pipeline moving: samples made and shipped on schedule, clients kept informed at every step, and feedback and revisions turned around quickly

Growth roadmap

  • Build the capacity, staffing, equipment, and quality plan for the next stage of growth, including larger Customs clients and new product categories
  • Bring the CEO a monthly report he can trust: operations P&L, delivery performance, inventory, cash needs, capacity, and top risks

How this role works with our Head of Manufacturing

Our GM of Manufacturing is our formulator and technical leader. He knows our equipment, our processes, and how to make every product we produce. He owns formulation and samples, batch instructions, quality standards, production execution, and training and supervising the floor team.

You own what gets made, when, in what quantity, and at what cost. He owns how it gets made, and that it’s made right. Together you’ll document his knowledge so the whole team can run without depending on any one person.

What we’re looking for:

Required

  • 7+ years in manufacturing operations, with at least 3 in a senior leadership role (plant manager, director of operations, GM, VP of operations, or COO)
  • Direct responsibility for a manufacturing P&L or operating budget, including product costing and inventory management
  • Experience in batch manufacturing: personal care, cosmetics, food and beverage, supplements, chemicals, or similar field
  • Hands-on production planning, purchasing, and inventory management, including working in an MRP/ERP system (we use Katana)
  • Record overseeing supply chain management and procurement
  • A track record of installing systems and accountability in a small or growing business, not just maintaining them in a large one
  • Comfortable on the floor and in a spreadsheet on the same day

Preferred

  • Contract manufacturing or private label experience
  • Formulation literacy and scale-up experience. You don’t need to formulate, but you need to understand the process
  • Experience supporting a DTC, Amazon, or wholesale consumer brand

Compensation and benefits

  • Base salary: $100,000 per year
  • Annual salary increase applied each year
  • Profit-sharing bonus: annual bonus paid from company profits, with the amount determined at the CEO’s discretion based on company and individual performance
  • Benefits: health, dental, vision, 15 days paid time off, paid holidays, and paid sick leave under Colorado law
  • Direct access to ownership and ability to drive business strategy.
  • The opportunity to scale an established manufacturing company under a CEO with multiple 8 figure exits.
