Enterprise Media, Inc. is seeking a highly organized, detail-oriented and hands-on Chief Financial Officer / Controller to oversee the financial operations of our growing multi-location media company. This is not a traditional corporate CFO position. We are looking for someone who can both manage the company's overall financial picture and work directly in the details when needed. The right candidate will be comfortable working in QuickBooks, reconciling accounts, managing payroll, improving processes, managing cash flow, reviewing financial statements and creating consistent systems across multiple locations. A major part of this role is bringing structure, accuracy and accountability to our financial operations. Key Responsibilities - Maintain accurate financial records across the company - Oversee QuickBooks and the general ledger - Complete and review bank and credit-card reconciliations - Manage accounts payable and accounts receivable - Monitor collections and accounts-receivable aging - Oversee and coordinate payroll processing, payroll reporting, deductions, employee changes and payroll-related accounting - Work with our payroll provider to ensure payroll is accurate and completed on time - Review payroll expenses, overtime and staffing costs by location - Maintain accurate records for loans, fixed assets and intercompany transactions - Develop a consistent monthly closing process - Prepare monthly financial statements - Produce profit-and-loss reporting by publication and location - Monitor expenses and identify opportunities for savings - Work with our CPA, banks, insurance providers and other financial partners - Assist ownership with equipment purchases, hiring decisions, acquisitions and other major financial decisions Systems and Process Improvement Enterprise Media operates multiple publications and locations, making organization and consistency extremely important. The CFO / Controller will be expected to create and improve systems for: - Accounts payable - Accounts receivable - Payroll - Expense coding - Deposits - Credit cards - Financial reporting - Purchase approvals - Document retention - Month-end closing We are looking for someone who does not simply identify problems, but creates practical solutions and puts them into place. Desired Qualifications - Strong QuickBooks experience - Strong accounting and bookkeeping knowledge - Significant payroll experience, including payroll processing, deductions, payroll taxes and payroll reconciliation - Experience working with an outside payroll provider - Experience with bank and credit-card reconciliations - Accounts payable and accounts receivable experience - Experience preparing financial statements - Strong Excel skills - Budgeting and forecasting experience - Experience working with multiple locations or business units is preferred - Experience in newspapers, printing, media or another operational small business is helpful but not required A bachelor's degree in accounting, finance or business is preferred, but significant practical experience will also be considered.
