As a rural Critical Access Hospital , CCMC is seeking a financial leader who understands the unique financial, reimbursement, regulatory, and operational challenges of rural healthcare. The CFO will serve as a key business partner to the Chief Executive Officer and provide leadership and oversight for the financial operations of the organization. The successful candidate will play an integral role in supporting the hospital's financial sustainability while helping ensure continued access to high-quality healthcare services for the communities we serve. The CFO provides leadership and oversight for several key organizational functions and departments, including the Business Office, Admissions, Medical Records, General Accounting, Central Supply, and Human Resources. The ideal candidate will be a strong, collaborative leader with extensive healthcare financial management experience, excellent communication skills, and a thorough understanding of accounting principles, hospital financial operations, CMS requirements, regulatory compliance, and revenue cycle management. Duties - Responsible for preparing and maintaining regular financial planning reports; monthly profit and loss statements, cash flow, etc. - Responsible for reporting all financial reports to the organization’s board of directors at monthly board meetings. - Coordinate the development and monitoring of budgets and develop financial business plans and forecasts. - Remain up to date on nonprofit audit best practices and state and federal laws. - Ensure maintenance of appropriate internal controls and financial procedures. - Coordinate audits and proper filing of all legal and regulatory reports and ensures compliance with the same. - Review all month-end closing activities, including general ledger maintenance, balance sheet reconciliations, overhead cost allocations, etc. - Serve as the key point of contact for external auditors. Manage preparation and support all external audits. - Responsible for the oversight of the Business Office, Admissions, Medical Records, General Accounting, Central Supply and the Human Resources Departments. - Analyze, verify, manage and implement budgets by department. - Responsible for all areas of revenue cycle. Ensure proper flow of revenue, billing and payment operations. - Provide service direct to patients while maintaining a positive patient relations atmosphere. - Interact with patients, family members, Medical Staff members, department managers, and employees on a continuous basis. - Perform any other duties as required or assigned by supervisor. Qualifications - Minimum of five (5) years of progressive financial leadership experience, preferably as a CFO, Controller, or equivalent senior financial leader in a hospital or healthcare setting. - Previous financial leadership experience in a Critical Access Hospital (CAH) or rural healthcare environment is strongly preferred. - Demonstrated knowledge of Critical Access Hospital reimbursement methodologies, Medicare and Medicaid reimbursement, cost reporting, CMS requirements, and healthcare regulatory compliance is highly desirable. - Strong working knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP), financial reporting, budgeting, forecasting, internal controls, cash management, and audit preparation. - Comprehensive understanding of hospital revenue cycle operations, including patient financial services, billing, reimbursement, collections, and revenue integrity. - Experience developing and managing departmental and organizational budgets and providing financial analysis to executive leadership and governing boards. - Demonstrated ability to identify financial and operational risks, implement cost-control strategies, and support long-term financial sustainability. - Strong leadership, communication, analytical, and problem-solving skills with the ability to work collaboratively with executive leadership, department managers, physicians, employees, and the Board of Directors. - Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a related field required. Master’s degree and/or professional certification such as CPA, CHFP, or FHFMA preferred.
