This is a true leadership position reporting directly to the owner/CEO. About the Role As COO/CFO, you will be the owner's right hand on the business side. You won't run the shop floor. You will lead the people who do (scheduling, fabrication, estimating, project management) and hold them to a high standard, while making sure the company is financially sound and moving in the right direction. You will have authority over hiring and firing of lead positions, review performance, report to ownership, and advise on the decisions that shape the company's future. Responsibilities Business Operations Leadership - Lead and hold department heads accountable for performance, deadlines, and profitability - Hire, evaluate, develop, and terminate lead and management-level positions - Monitor key operational metrics and identify bottlenecks, inefficiencies, and risks - Keep departments communicating and aligned with company goals - Review vendor, supplier, and contract terms to protect the company's interests - Ensure compliance with insurance, licensing, and regulatory requirements Financial Leadership - Supervise the accounting and bookkeeping function and ensure the books are accurate, timely, and well organized - Review monthly financial statements, job costing, WIP schedules, and AP/AR - Develop and monitor budgets, forecasts, and cash flow projections - Prepare and present regular financial and performance reports to the owner/CEO - Manage relationships with banks, bonding agents, insurance providers, and outside accountants - Oversee tax planning, audits, and compliance with outside advisors Strategic Leadership - Continuously assess the health and direction of the company - Meet regularly with ownership to discuss performance, risks, and opportunities - Provide guidance on pricing, margins, major purchases, growth plans, and long-term strategy Requirements - Proven experience in both COO and CFO functions (combined or separate roles) at the senior level - Direct experience in steel fabrication, structural/miscellaneous metals, or a closely related construction or manufacturing industry - 10+ years of progressive leadership experience in finance and business operations - Proven experience hiring, managing, and terminating department heads and lead staff - Strong knowledge of job costing, WIP reporting, and construction/manufacturing accounting - Ability to review financials critically and spot errors, trends, and red flags - Excellent communication skills, with the ability to deliver clear reports and candid advice to ownership - Working knowledge of accounting and ERP software (QuickBooks, Sage, or similar) Preferred Qualifications - Construction industry experience - Experience with the legal and regulatory side of a construction or fabrication business, including NYC licensing, certifications, permits, and compliance - Experience with bonding, public works, or prevailing wage projects Location & Schedule On-site in the Bronx, NY.
