CCTV Engineer
Job Summary We are seeking a skilled and detail-oriented CCTV Engineer to design, install, configure, maintain, and troubleshoot closed-circuit television (CCTV) and video surveillance systems. The ideal candidate will have hands-on experience with IP and analog camera systems, network video recorders (NVRs), digital video recorders (DVRs), and video management software (VMS), along with a strong understanding of networking fundamentals as they relate to security systems. Key Responsibilities Install, configure, and commission CCTV systems, including IP cameras, DVRs/NVRs, video management software (VMS), and associated infrastructure. Conduct site surveys and assess camera placement, coverage, and cabling requirements. Terminate and test cabling (CAT5e/CAT6, coaxial) and ensure proper power supply (PoE, power adapters, UPS backup). Configure network settings (IP addressing, VLANs, port forwarding) for CCTV devices and integrate with existing IT/network infrastructure. Program and configure video analytics features (motion detection, facial recognition, license plate recognition, perimeter alerts, etc.) as required. Perform preventive maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of existing CCTV systems. Diagnose and resolve hardware, software, and network-related faults in surveillance systems. Integrate CCTV systems with access control, alarm systems, and other security platforms. Maintain accurate documentation, including system diagrams, camera schedules, IP address lists, and service reports. Ensure all installations comply with relevant safety standards, local regulations, and data protection/privacy laws. Provide technical support and training to end users/clients on system operation. Liaise with clients, contractors, and project managers to ensure timely project delivery. Respond to emergency callouts and service requests within agreed SLAs. Keep up to date with emerging CCTV technologies, cybersecurity practices, and industry standards. Required Qualifications & SkillsEducation Diploma or Degree in Electrical/Electronic Engineering, Computer Science, IT, or a related field (or equivalent practical experience). Experience Minimum [2–5] years of hands-on experience in CCTV installation, configuration, and maintenance. Proven experience working with major CCTV brands (e.g., Hikvision, Dahua, Axis, Bosch, Hanwha, Milestone) — adjust based on company preference. Experience with structured cabling and low-voltage electrical work. Technical Skills Strong knowledge of IP networking (TCP/IP, subnetting, VLANs, PoE). Familiarity with VMS platforms (e.g., Milestone, Genetec, Exacq, etc.). Understanding of storage calculations (bandwidth, retention, RAID configurations). Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, floor plans, and system schematics. Basic knowledge of access control and alarm system integration is a plus. Proficiency with diagnostic and configuration tools/software. Certifications (Preferred) Manufacturer-specific certifications (e.g., Hikvision HCSA, Axis ACP, Milestone Certified). CCTV/security industry certifications (e.g., SIA license, if applicable to region). Networking certifications (e.g., CompTIA Network+, Cisco CCNA) are a plus. Soft Skills Strong problem-solving and troubleshooting abilities. Good communication skills for client interaction and team coordination. Ability to work independently and manage time effectively across multiple sites. Attention to detail and commitment to quality workmanship.
