This is an outstanding, unique opportunity to also help develop and grow a hard-core litigation team that is not afraid to take a case to trial, and knows how to do it the right way. The work is high-volume, high-execution, and often novel; Tesla Insurance does not look like a traditional auto insurance carrier and operates in a technology driven environment. What You'll Do - Have direct responsibility for litigating casualty matters, with primary responsibility for representation of insureds in third-party liability cases and Tesla Insurance in first-party UM/UIM arbitration proceedings - Own all aspects of assigned files including written discovery, expert workup, take and defend depositions, take EUOs, engage in motion practice, handle mediations, and effectively advocate for your clients in arbitration and trial - Evaluate liability, damages, policy-limit exposure, and settlement value; recommend and execute effective resolution and trial strategies - Identify suspected fraudulent activity, including organized rings - Drive consistent, effective and efficient litigation strategy across the book and provide decisionmakers with a clear, fact and evidence-based analysis of risk and exposure What You'll Bring - Admitted to practice law in California; admission or prior practice in other adjacent states a plus - 7+ years of experience with an outside or captive counsel firm or as staff counsel for a top carrier directly handling insurance defense litigation, with significant experience in high exposure venues such as Los Angeles County - Significant experience taking and defending percipient and expert depositions and first chair experience with binding arbitrations and trying cases to verdict - Extensive knowledge of bodily injury claims, including those involving causation issues - Experience developing and managing attorneys and legal support staff or managing a law firm a significant plus - Excellent written and oral advocacy skills, high integrity and sound judgment, and the ability to own a high-volume docket without sacrificing quality - Experience with accidents involving TNCs, commercial vehicles and autonomous vehicles a plus Benefits Along with competitive pay, as a full-time Tesla employee, you are eligible for the following benefits at day 1 of hire: - Medical plans > plan options with $0 payroll deduction - Family-building, fertility, adoption and surrogacy benefits - Dental (including orthodontic coverage) and vision plans, both have options with a $0 paycheck contribution - Company Paid (Health Savings Accounts) HSA Contribution when enrolled in the High-Deductible medical plan with HSA - Healthcare and Dependent Care Flexible Spending Accounts (FSA) - 401(k) with employer match, Employee Stock Purchase Plans, and other financial benefits - Company paid Basic Life, AD&D - Short-term and long-term disability insurance (90 day waiting period) - Employee Assistance Program - Sick and Vacation time (Flex time for salary positions, Accrued hours for Hourly positions), and Paid Holidays - Back-up childcare and parenting support resources - Voluntary benefits to include: critical illness, hospital indemnity, accident insurance, theft & legal services, and pet insurance - Weight Loss and Tobacco Cessation Programs - Tesla Babies program - Commuter benefits - Employee discounts and perks program - Earned Wage Access: Real-time pay access paid daily, subject to eligibility and schedule (applicable for below Sr. Managers levels) Expected Compensation $201,400 - $324,900/annual salary + cash and stock awards + benefits Pay offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including market location, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience.
